Paul, don't forget you're using a second generation, as compared to a third generation Rumble. Newer doesn't always mean as good or better. In the old world of amps, tubes a are more consistent than SS overall performance. the more you heat up tubes, the better they perform most of the time. At break times, a tube amp, go to a stand by, with SS, off. Just me though.

Not just you. SS amp gain goes up with temp rise. The bias is turned down to compensate. But the sound is not consistent.
There are other ss circuit issues that don't track well with volume changes.
Tube amps have better gain stability.
