I don't think I am imagining this, but want to see if anyone else has experienced it.

After playing for awhile at the gig, it seems like my Rumble 200 starts to break up and distort more after time goes on. this could be maybe 30 minutes, or 1-2 hours into the gig.

the breakup that I am getting is not unpleasant, it just sounds like what you would normally get when turning up and pushing the amp. but I don't notice this when I first plugin for soundcheck, just later in the night.

Note that I am not turning it up, which usually happens. I ended the gig with the gain and master knobs somewhere around 9 oclock.

I am wondering if this has something to do with the amp heating up, although I didn't notice it being really hot to the touch.

At first this made me wonder if I need to step up to the higher wattage 500 model to get more headroom, but then I realize that I have the volume knobs still at a pretty low level.

I really like this amp, I think Fender did a great job here. Great tone, good power, super light, classic looks, and affordable. I just need to make sure I have enough clean headroom.

Heat problem inside the amp ?

A tech should open the amp and see if any trace of burn resistor , solder , printed circuit ......

The Class D power amp in most modern combos don't like to be heated up. The light weight comes partly from the fact that there is no heatsink in the power stage. While the transistors don't produce a lot of heat, a long gig will warm them up.
The intellegent power supply turns the power amp down to compensate.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the amp.
Try turning the amp Off during breaks.

This is Leem's one and only post. 'Hit and Run' as they say. I posted a serious answer but deleted it a week later when there was no reply. I grow weary of this place. If I weren't running the Fender Rumble Club on TalkBass, I'd be like so many others that take up pottery just like brotherdave in his advancing old age.

I never had an issue with my Rumble 350 or even my Orange Terror Bass 1000 Class D amps overheating and distorting and I've ran them (I know I've done more hours on The Fender because I've had it longer) for long periods of time. Of course, that doesn't mean another amp could have some issue, though. It's just my experience with mine and it's also a different model.

We can't be sure, but if Leem doesn't take himself seriously enough to come back, I don't see any reason why we should. It could be a situation similar to 'drunk dialing' where he simply doesn't remember posting.

He may be un able to get back to the post also. Flash fact here, this doesn't have priority over life's emergencies, and issues. You can't expect some people to jump right back at it.

Maybe he uses Craigslist a lot (especially for musician's classifieds) and it's a habit. :P That place is notorious for that sort of thing. Someone responds to your ad once and then they're never heard from again.

Guys, I didn't reply because I didn't have much to add. Also I had some issues getting back into my account.

I did also hear back from a fender rep and he suggested that I bring it to a repair shop. I guess I figured it wasn't that big of an issue and I could live with it. Like it was mentioned, I can turn it off during breaks (if I remember, and if we actually take a break). It really is not a huge issue, and I have to really listen to notice the distortion that is there, but I think it does happen, and letting it cool off seems to help. I still am very happy with this amp overall, it is a great combination of tone, power, light weight, looks, and price. Perfect for my needs. I was mainly curious to see if anyone else noticed this, or if it was just my unit.

I do appreciate you guys that take the time to reply to these forums. There is alot of great information in here that you can't find anywhere.

It is JUST your unit. Get it checked out. It is likely a heat issue as referenced earlier. If you are not changing any amp or instrument settings and really are at 9 o'clock on both gain and volume then it is heat related most likely. Heat issues will shorten the life of the unit. Need to get this rectified asap. If it is under warranty you are taking a risk to keep using it like that.

I think this is a common problem with the solid state Fender amps. I had the Rumble 200 combo and it would distort the tone after 35 minutes. So, I bought a Rumble 500 head thinking that would solve my problem. Now it will go about 45 minutes then start to distort my tone. It is not my basses, since I use two different basses when gigging. I love Fender, but this is terrible.

I guess I've been lucky with my Rumble 350 combo, which I've had since 2012. I'm wondering if since mine is the 2nd generation Rumble, and not the 3rd, like the 200 and your 500, that it's something to do with that series, or just bad luck? I do know they weren't made in the same place, so there would be different factories, not that necessarily has any bearing on it.
