Just received my new Rumble 15 today, plugged in, powered up and put the jack lead in, without the guitar connected, only to hear a loud buzzing. Plugged in guitar but no change however it stopped when I held the strings.

I can run up a sound file if that helps. I hope this is something simple and I don't have to get into the hassle of sending it back.

Any advise gratefully accepted, many thanks.

First: check that your not getting 'dirty power' and eliminate any sources electronic interference.
Second: turn on the amp and wait a minute then turn up the volume slowly. What do you hear? Anything? If you hear the same noise, it is your amp. Stop here and send it back.
Third: using a known good instrument cable plug into your bass first and with amp volume all the way down then plug into your amp.
Fourth: Turn the volume up slowly. If you are now hearing a buzz that stops when you touch the strings, you have a ground issue with your instrument and not the amp.

I live in Greece where the power is not great but there is little I can do about that. I can try it with a smother.

Do you mean with the cable in? There is no noise with the cable out.
With the cable in but not connected to the bass, the buzzing is there and get louder as I turn up the volume.

I will have to borrow another lead for this.

The buzzing is a bit quieter when I plug in the guitar and definitely stops when I hold the strings.

No, with cable out. OK no noise is good. With the cable pluged into the amp but not connected to an instrument is always going to generate some noise, so don't do that.

Now try this: once you borrow another cable try plugging into a totally different amp. It doesn't even have to be a bass amp as all you are going to do is to see if your bass is what is buzzing.

What it sounds like to me is that you've lost your ground to your bridge. Are you using a coated string such as DR Neons or Elixirs? Coated strings sometimes have grounding issues. Especially when strung through the body.

Thank stratele52. The plug is in but no guitar so I wondered if it could be the lead, before I assumed it was the amp.

"Plug is in with no guitar "; What do you mean ? The guitar wire is plug in the amp with no guitar at other end ? If yes this wire act like antenna and make some buzz with any wire and any amp

Why can't you ask at simple question ?
Nothing plug in the amp ; buzz or not ?

My apologies.

When the amp is plugged into the the mains and switched on but with no jack plug lead attached to the amp, all is good and there is no noise/buzzing.

When I plug in the jack lead but without the guitar attached, there is a loud buzzing.

When I then plug in the guitar i.e. get ready to play, the buzzing reduces slightly but it is still there.

If I then hold the guitar strings, the noise disappears.

Hope that's clear now.

Amp is good

When I plug in the jack lead but without the guitar attached, there is a loud buzzing.
Normal , good

When I then plug in the guitar i.e. get ready to play, the buzzing reduces slightly but it is still there.
Problem with your guitar or check for cell phone , PC , electrical interferences in your home,

If I then hold the guitar strings, the noise disappears.
See answer before

Hope that's clear now.

With what you write , amp is good, check outside the amp

Problem solved. It was the cheapo lead that came with the guitar. I had neve spotted this before because I have been using a Vox Bass dongle until my new amp arrived.

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions guys.
