Have you ever tried out any of the Fender cabs? I don't think they're 4 ohms, though.

That's what turned me back to the Ampeg SVT-410HLF. Other than I like the sound the cab is capable of, It's 4 ohms. Unless I missed something in the Fender Cab specs, they're 8 ohms. I almost like what Mesa does with some of their cabs. Giving you an option to go with a 4 ohm, or an 8 ohm cab.
Hartke has an ohms selector option on a couple of their cabs, for either 4 ohms or 8 ohms.

Yeah, or you can have the option like I do with the Orange head and have selective impedance. I can switch between 8 or 4 ohms with a little switch on the back of the amp. Not sure if any other amps have that, other than maybe some all tube head that did. That's why I'd actually prefer an 8 ohm speaker, so I could have the option to run two cabs, yet I could still run full power into one 8 ohm, if need be.

That's cool you have the option.

Yeah, it can be pretty handy.

The whole setup of the Orange Terror is a pretty well thought out head. 8)

Yeah, although I wouldn't mind just a few more EQ options with it on certain occasions, but other than that it's pretty cool. If I ever had to, I could utilize an EQ pedal of some sort. I routinely use a chorus pedal as part of my set up, anyhow, so pedals are no big deal to me.

Sometimes I think a more simple bass amp is a bit better.

With all the pedals, and toys available for an amp, you really can add what you need.

A lot more bass pedals available these days for sure.

That's true, although the chorus pedal I use isn't bass specific, but works fine anyhow. I also have a MXR bass preamp/DI box which is bass specific and sounds amazing with recording applications. It gives you this nice sustain and beefiness. You can also enhance certain frequencies so I can boost the 400 for the bass to really shine through. I heard about that trick from the guy that use to work for Motown.

It's a great pedal. I may or may not try it out with my live rig and see how that sounds with it. Not sure yet, though.

I'm thinking about trying another Fender Bassman 500 head, and hoping it doesn't have a volume gaining issue when powering up starts.
