I know I'm not sure I understand why Ampeg for example, doesn't use Neo 12" Eminence in a SVT-212AV. To me it would be a logical way of trimming down the weight, and still keeping the strength of the cab. Oh Hell, what do I know.

Do they even typically use Neo speaker to begin with? I don't remember that sort of specs on their cabs, off hand. I suppose you could swap them out for some, but that would be an additional expense.

They do have a PRO NEO Series, with USA Eminence Neo's. 410, 210, 115. But I think that's about it on Neo's with Ampeg factory cabs.

Oh, OK. I remember those, now that you mention it. I think they're around or over the $1000 price range, if I'm not mistaken.

Yep. There up there. They have the horizontal elongated vent running across the bottom of the cab. Those cabs look like they're really road Ampegs.

I think AMS had them listed on their site, but I haven't looked recently. I do remember about them, though.

The Bassman 500 started the old noises like the others did. It's gone on Monday. I have an Ampeg V-4B coming in on Tue. I hope. I surrender.

Wow, it did? Man, that sucks! :( It looked like you had a winner with this amp this time. I wonder what happened there?

You know Paul, I really don't know. With this being a newer one, and going into a different brand cab than the older one did, I give up on it. I just got tired of playing the Fender game with these Bassman 500's.

It is DONE! The Ampeg V-4B is on it's way. I should have it tomorrow. This will actually be my first tube Ampeg Half Stack I've had. I played through one this morning, and it was good. Come to think of it, this is my first Ampeg Tube head I've ever owned. 8)

Sounds good. 8) It's a shame about the Bassman 500, but if you've had that much bad luck with it, you'd probably be best to try other options, like you've done. I know it's a moot point now, but have you read about anyone else having similar issues with this head? I've never noticed much discussion at all with the Bassman 500, even on this forum, other than us shooting the breeze, but then again, I wasn't searching extensively for it, like I've done with other amps.

I don't know what to think about the Bassman 500's anymore. I'm not going back to one again. I'll do the Ampeg half stack, that's been thumbs up for a decent number of Ampeg users. The V-4B, and the SVT-212AV. The V-4B will power 8, 4, & 2 ohm cabs. 100 Tube watts has more than enough power for what I need.

Yeah, definitely. I've heard those things can get pretty loud, especially being all tube, and the fact you could add additional cabs to it, not that's what you're looking for. That amp with the 2 x 12" cab, and the SG bass, should give you that classic bass sound, I'd think.

Yes. I think so too. The selection of ohms on the back of the V-4B, is done by plugging jacks. Instead of switches, you plug in what ohms is needed.

Sounds pretty cool. 8) When you get to where you post pics of it, could you do a shot of one of the back, if not a pain in the arse. I'm curious to see how that is arranged back there.
