So basically it's the bastard love child of the Bassman and Rumble? :P That's pretty cool, actually. Best of both worlds there. I just wish they put that out a few years earlier, but such as life.

I have it on good authority that they were properly married first. I think it will deliver the goods that other tube-pres promise but fail to deliver such as the Genz Benz Streamliner, and GK Fusions etc. I'll bet it blows the competition clean out of the water in much the same way as Fender's Super Bassman ripped Ampig's SVT a new one.

Plus, it's a little more affordable, which is a bonus, unless you're a all tube or nothing type player.

True. One of the main things that put Genz Benz in the grave was that it was way over priced. The people that could afford that price point were choosing Aguilar, and still are with good reason. Mesa and Eden are still alive, but it is Aguilar that thrives. I'll take the Rumble 500 over the Aggie Tone Hammer 500 any day, and twice on Sundays. Tone Hammers sound great, but Rumbles sound greater!

As for all tubes, Fender's Super Bassman is the be all - end all of bass amps. There just isn't anything better at any price.

Truth be told, I'll bet it probably has the same components inside the Rumble and the Tone Hammer to begin with. I don't see the justification of the $200 (or whatever it is) price difference, unless you want the name on it. Unless I'm missing something there, I had no interest in the Tone Hammer, if I was in the market for a 500 watt Class D head either. I have played through an Aguilar rig in a NYC rehearsal studio with my P-Bass Lyte and I wasn't overly excited with it in comparison to it's expensive price. It was one of those big white heads that cost almost $3000 they have or had. Of course, that's just a taste preference and that could be the be all end all amp to someone else.

MarkBass is doing very well, but I am not a fan and feel they are very overpriced for what they are.

I never had the chance to check one out. I think they were all the rage over at TalkBass for awhile, weren't they? :P

I've heard a couple played live in bars, and they're OK I guess, but they just strike me as just more over rated & over priced gear. Nothing special.

I guess that was one of the things that put me off, the price and the fact I would have to go to Guitar Center to even check them out. I'm usually not too keen on doing that, especially the one near where I live.

MarkBass is pretty solid. I used some variations of their gear. It works.

That's right, didn't you have a combo amp?

Last couple:

I own a TH500. Build-wise at least as good as anything I've ever seen in my life. Cooling scheme is extremely conservative, which I can't say for some other lightweights. Tone? Awful, imo. Clanky and ganky, with lots of mids that can't be dialed out. The Q on the mid control is way too high for me. Long ago on TB I got slammed by the resident self-promoting TH fanbois for speaking this obvious truth. Someone else I was communicating with on the same subject, and who agreed with me, got slammed there, too. I keep TH as a spare, and to use with an outboard preamp (into the effects return). The amp Paul used was the DB750/751, btw. Solid, reliable tank, but the sound... eh... An important DB75x endorser recently moved to Ashdown.

Years ago, MB was all the rage. You were a loser if you didn't have one. They've fallen out of favor. Warranty nightmare stories abound -- though rumor has it things have gotten marginally better. I think they sound ok. Tone-wise I'd be happy with one. The Jackson models have always intrigued me. But like Paul said, I'd have to do business at... yeah.

I've been playing with the rough equivalent of the Bassman 500: Frenzel FM-DP1 into a solid state power amp (either an ART or the TH's 500 watt power amp section). I get that nice beefy Fender passive tone stack along with the tightness and reliability of solid state (no Russian or Chinese firecrackers posing as power tubes).

So Craig P., all you need to do is ditch all that other crapoloa and buy a nice new Bassman 500! 8) And new speaker cabs too! After all it is the right thing to do! 8)

I wonder when are those suppose to come out, or are they out already? One of you guys has to get one so I know what it sounds like. :P I can't right now because I have to pay off at least $1000 in credit card debt because of a bunch of gear I bought already. Well, it was at least stuff I needed. :P
