Only 17 pounds and looks just like the all tube heads, so it's a very attractive package. The new V3 Rumble speaker cabinets are receiving rave reviews too. You could put together quite a great sounding rig at a very affordable price.

It is great the FMIC is giving bass players some good gear to work with. Credit where credit is due.

This is a really good move by Fender. Before going back to a full tube rig I rocked an SWR 550X for over 5 years. A killer hybrid and I found it to be the perfect size head. Just right for small to medium size clubs. Anything bigger and the PA should be doing the work for you. Where as the guys with the 750X (800Watt range) level rigs seemed like a bit much for small gigs and the guys with the 350X (400 Watt range) level rigs not enough for the medium sized packed houses. The 550X always seemed to be just what the doctor ordered, and people were always opting to play through my rig instead of what they brought. The classic Bassman Preamp can only improve upon the offering in this wattage range. Barring any bugs, I have a feeling this will become a workhorse for years to come and a standard among working musicians.

Well, that looks rather interesting. They should have came out with that a long time ago. :P I would have been rocking that for sure.

It looks like Sam Ash has the Bassman 500 listed in their inventory: http://www.samash.com/bassman-500-head-f22496000-p They expect it available Feb. 28th, but knowing Fender, I don't. :P Maybe one or two of them if you're lucky. They also have the new 1x12" and 2x10" Rumble cabs listed there as well.
