Hello everyone,

I am very happy with my Fender Bronco 40.
Since I finally found other musicians, the time may come to use it on-stage.
In order to be prepared, I considered the following setup for small and mid-sized rooms:

Bronco40 => Power Amp (Crown 2500 XLS) => Ampeg 4x10 & 1x15

I have read in the forum that:
- The Bronco can be connected directly to a power amp,
- That a preamp might be necessary, see post: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?p=947224#p947224

Further, the Crown 2500 XLS power amp would have a 1.4V input sensitivity;
see http://www.crownaudio.com/media/pdf/140654-3_12-10_PortablePA_VM-sheet.pdf.

According to the QuickStart Manual, the Bronco's XLR line output has 3.3k ohms impedance.
The Crown 2500 XLS power amp has 20k ohms impedance.

I am not an expert on this, so:

1.) Is it relevant how much smaller the Bronco's output impedance is compared to the power amp's input impedance?

2.) What about the preamp's input sensitivity of 1.4V; is it reasonable connecting the Bronco's line out to that input? Or would it be better using an additional preamp between the Bronco and the Crown power amp?
If so, it would be no problem, I just would like to plan my budget beforehand :D

3.) Is the Bronco's lineout a +4dbU, -10dbV, or is there another classification or name for it?

Sorry, if I pack so many things together in this post. Being no expert, I find it hard not to get lost in the jungle of input and output spec paramters :D

To all of you thanks in advance,
have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Kind regards,
Michael

I found out that you must have some kind of signal boost for the xlr output to get the proper wattage out of a power amp. I now have a little 4 channel Mackie, if I need to use my Bronco for gigging. It would be backup. I now have a Rumble 350. Miss the octaviser.

Bronco is meant to go into a mixing board of some type. Direct into a power amp results in anemic power.

modwiz, thanks very much for the reply.
OK, guess I am going to put some bucks aside for a preamp. I already have a JoeMeek ThreeQ for a mic'ed channel.
I hope it will also be suitable for the Bronco-Crown-connection, since I am very satisfied in terms of noise level and signal quality. So, having a second one would be cool; to put it like Bob Ross, the TV painter: Let's give him a friend. :D

I have seen the photo of your gear stack to which your Bronco is connected. Looks impressive!
Merry Christmas,
Michael

LOL. The pic of my gear was pretty big. I now have just the Rumble 350 on top. It is a 1x15 with a 4x8 on top. Great sound yes but, the Bronco has sounds for a bass player that are incredibly varied and useful in a musical and creative sense. One day, I might get ambitious and creative at the same time and use some unique Bronco settings as the basis of a song setting.

Enjoy your amp. Experimenting in the headphones is a special experience aurally. The immersion is sublime bassworld.
