Howdy folks,

Semi newbie question. I've played bass in a band before, filling in for a few months and using the equipment of the bass player who was temporarily out of commission. Otherwise, I've been a guitarist only for many years.

Now I find myself being offered a position to play bass in a band again on a permanent level, and while I have a bass, I had no amp. I wished I has though of checking here before ordering, but I didn't even realize this forum existed.

So I noticed the previous Rumble 410 cab was only $199 on AMS, and having had great success with fender guitar amps (and based on a lot of great reviews), I purchased that cab along with the new 2014 Rumble 500 watt head.

I can't foresee any issues with this combination, but thought I'd ask the experts, lol. These should work fine together with no chance of damage to either, correct?

Thanks for any info. I'll probably be throwing a few more questions at you folks!

Hi JohnMc, and welcome to the Fender Forums. Great first post and excellent question.

You've made a very wise choice in the Fender Rumble 500 head. These along with the 500 combos are getting a whole lotta love over on the TalkBass Fender Rumble Club. Indeed the Rumble 500's have been flying off the shelves and are selling far faster than Fender can make them. The entire Rumble line is enjoying exceedingly strong sales world wide.

The version 2 Rumble 410 4 ohm cabinet is legendary for great sound, and sold hand-over-fist for years. Your $200 price brand new is about the same amount that used V2 410's go for, so that was a very smart purchase on your part.

Your Rumble 500 head will be pumping its entire 500 watts into your single 410 cab. Also at 4 ohms you are limited to that single cab, unles you want to go with a pair of 8 ohm cabs. Just be aware that 4 ohms is your lower limit and going lower could cause serious damage to include catastrophic failure. Your Rumble 500 can blow the drivers in the 410, but it would be be so freaking loud you'd be certifiably insane to push it that far.

Enjoy and Rumble On!

Thanks linnin, that just the info I was hoping to hear.

I do not plan on adding any more cabinets. To be honest, this set up is likely overkill, as everything is DI'd to the board, and the majority of gigs will be in small to medium-small sized venues, with maybe 20 or so medium sized indoor or outdoor venues per year.

I'm pumped! I've owned dozens of guitar amps from several manufacturers over the years, and my best experiences in terms of sound and longevity combined have been Fender amps. I can't wait for this rig to arrive!

I guarantee you that rig is going to be so loud that all your sound tech will ever say to you is, "YOU ARE STILL TOO LOUD!"

I guess that may be possible. The outgoing bass player also used a 500 watt head and a 410 cab. I actually was going to go with a smaller, more lightweight combo, but the guys in the band expressed a little reservation about a smaller rig. Once I saw the deal on the Rumble cab, I decided to go with a similar set up as the one I will be replacing. My original thinking was that, since everything is to be DI, there was no need in the larger cabinet.

One thing that I may be crappy at guesstimating is venue size: I'm not really sure what constitutes a small venue. Our average gig will be in facilitates that holds 200 to 300 people, which I consider small. The medium venue gigs are in places that will accommodate up to 800 or so.

You've successfully made me nervous, haha. I don't want to be too loud.

You've got volume controls, so worry not. Please let us know how you and your bandmates like your new Rumble gear! 8)
