Im new to the world of amps and was thinking about combining the Rumble 500 head with an Orange OBC410 4x10 cab. The cab says its 600 watts, and i was wondering if putting a 500 watt amp through this is a bad decision. Is the 600w just the max the cab can go to without blowing/burning/etc?

Thanks

Hi Jconfer, you are SAFE. That cab stock is wired for 8 Ohms and has a 600 watts RMS power capacity. It will work with any amp up to 600 watts RMS. The Fender Rumble 500 actually is 500 watts RMS only when used into a 4 Ohm load. Into an 8 Ohm load such as that Orange cab the Rumble 500 V3 outputs 350 watts RMS which is WELL within the power limitations of the cab. That is a decent tour quality cab but it is really heavy.

I really think if using a SINGLE 4x10 cab that I'd be looking for a 4 Ohm one to get the full 500 watts from the head. That might be a better idea than a single 8 Ohm cab that limits the amp's power output to 350 watts. Or you could use that 8 Ohm cab and add a second 8 Ohm cab and daisy chain together the two cabs which would produce a 4 Ohm load for the amp so it would do the full 500 watt power output. You probably wouldn't need the second cab for an indoor gig, but outdoors it would make a real difference. The head will sound 150 watts louder with a 4 Ohm load than an 8 Ohm load. You can buy TWO Fender Rumble 410 8 Ohm cabs for about $200 less than ONE of those Orange OBC410 cabs. The Fender Rumble 410 is also about 30 lbs lighter. That matters to me a lot!
