Yesterday, I stopped by my local GC to try out the Bronco 40. The man with the name tag was surprised to find they didn't have any in stock. After referencing his magic inventory machine, he replied to me, "No stores in the area have any. It shows as inactive. That usually means the product has been discontinued."

After a minute of pain-staking Google research, I couldn't find anything to substantiate that. Is it correct that the Bronco 40 has been discontinued?

No, I don't think so. Both Sweetwater and Musician's Friend show them in stock and ready to ship for $250. I've never known GC to stock them in stores as they are pretty much a specialty b'amp. GC's website also show them in stock and ready to ship.

Thanks for the reply. Having had a couple of Line 6 products lose support, I'm edgy about buying another digital product for fear that it will also lose manufacturer's support.

The Bronco 40 looks very interesting to me, but want to try before I buy. I'd hate to make a retailer incur the cost of bringing one to town, only for me to walk away from it.

Fender's not going anywhere, so don't worry. I'd go ahead and get your local GC bring one in anyway. You're a serious customer and they are in business to sell you what you want.

I seriously wish the Bronco amp had more power. If it had 100 or even 80 watts I'd already have bought one. As it is it just is not loud enough for me. After my pleasant experience so far with my Mustang modeling guitar amp I would for sure buy a Bronco that was 80 watts and up. It would be a no-brainer. I know it would cost more but a 40 watt bass amp just is too quiet for even a rehearsal.

It isn't just Line 6 that has bailed on all bass products. Marshall amplification also has abandoned bass completely. There is not a single bass amp in the 2014 Marshall catalog.

Some of the Line 6 bass products were actually pretty decent too. Their Variax Bass was a real innovation, super versatile and it's a pity Line 6 discontinued it. Gary Sinise was the first major act that I saw use one.

Image

He played the Line 6 Variax at many gigs for about two years mixed with Fender P's and J's. Then he went to all Fender. But most recently Sinese has been playing a neck through high end Cort A4. Cort has an artist page for him on their site, so he must have some sort of endorsement deal or they couldn't use his photo. Yet he is still photographed with Fender basses a lot.

I too have a Line 6 bass amp, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I don't consider Line 6 owes me anything since my warranty ran out at least 6 years ago! It is due to be replaced but it just keeps going.

If there was a 100 watt Bronco with an XLR out I'd have one already. For me an XLR out is a MUST HAVE feature. But 40 watts simply isn't enough for me to use it as a stage monitor. It isn't powerful enough to use it standalone for rehearsals for me either. I don't need a "practice" or "recording" amp. I like a light powerful amp with amp emulation and enough power to rehearse and gig with patched out to the PA. Up till about 2 years ago that meant a Line 6. Fender should fill the void here and offer a beefier Bronco suitable for a wider variety of applications than home practice and digital recording. It is overdue. I keep waiting and waiting for it.

Fender offers a bunch of power options in their Mustang amps and why they don't do the same in the Bronco Bass amp is because bass amps don't sell as many units as guitar amps and the Bronco by it's more complex nature is going to cost more than a similarly powered Rumble. Combo buying bassists are notorious for going by watts per dollar which makes a $600 Bronco Bass 100 watt amp a highly specialized thing that probably wouldn't sell that well, but I'd for sure buy one.

As much as I like the tonal and effects options in the Bronco 40, I'm absolutely not buying a Bronco 40 because it just doesn't suit my needs at all for anything beyond practice and I use a headphone setup through the computer with a bass amp emulation pedal for home practice.

I don't think they're discontinued,.... there's 9 Long & McQuade Music stores in my area
(Vancouver, BC) that have them in stock & it's still on the Fender website,.... I have one for practicing by myself in my home & wait for the day Fender puts out a louder version
of this amp.

Cool! It seems that those who have them are pretty happy with the unit. I look forward to finding a used one.
