I purchased an American made Fender "RAD" Bass Amplifier last night. I found it on Craigslist here in a suburb of Austin, TX.
---
The guy who sold it thought it was about 20 years old. It is a smaller practice amp. It says on the back that it is 75 watts.
---
It sounds ...... FANTASTIC ...... It almost sounds like a miniature tube amp. Although it is solid state ... The sound is smooth and full.
---
What do you know about these amps? I can't find much information. They stopped making them many years ago.

Thank you

The R.A.D. amp is 30 watts RMS or so pushing a 10 inch speaker. The "75 Watts" lettering on the back next to the voltage requirement means it has a 75 watt power consumption rating. This model was introduced around 1991. The R.A.D. was highly rated as a home practice amp by some magazines of the day. At the same time Peavey had the Minx out which was the same power with a 10 inch speaker and the Minx had a much longer run model wise. There was a Fender guitar amp called the J.A.M. amp that was the R.A.D.'s sibling. Catchy model names right?

The R.A.D. is well engineered and proved to be reliable. Left to right the front has two inputs (hi and low), Volume, Low, Mid and High control pots. Next come RCA inputs for your cassette player or boom box/ghetto blaster, Preamp out/Power Amp In/Headphone 1/4 inch jacks and lastly the rocker power switch. On the back was nothing but the permanently wired in power cable.

The R.A.D. has a reputation as a well made solid state practice amp. Recall the light gray rat fur covered ones clearly. The gray rat fur and other cosmetics would be shared with the M80 series.

Sounded good for a low power practice amp. It was a short lived model, but Fender practice amp models change fairly frequently as they try to catch the new player market and keep up with marketing to youth..
