Well, if the Rumble 500 combo is any improvement over the Rumble 350 combo, or at least comparable, then you should be good to go on that one. I have the 350 combo and never had any issue with it, so at least I might be able to vouch for that one, but then again I could be comparing oranges to apples. It isn't exactly the same amp, even though they technically have the same power rating without the 500 having an extension cab hooked up to it.

I know what you mean about wanting a combo, although I do now have an Orange Terror Bass 1000 watt head, which is ridiculously lightweight (11 pounds) and comes with it's own bag that you can sling over you shoulder and take with you anywhere. The thing with that is you need a cab to go with it and being 1000 watts, you have to be careful with your choices and know what your running. I have a Carvin 18" speaker cab that actually isn't much more bigger or heavier than the Rumble 350 was, so it's pretty manageable, plus it has casters.

By the way, I didn't get that Orange because the Fender was inadequate, I got it because it was too good of a deal to pass up, plus I really did want to go back to a stack set up so I have other speaker choices. The Fender is still a good amp.

Thanx for the info. I realize that the head/cab configuration is a very viable option. I just prefer the combo/all in one. I've been working hard to reduce the amount of items I slug along to a gig. Plus I had a head/cab setup at one time and it just seemed to me to be cumbersome to hook it up, silly I know. It was a Laney Richter head, 500 maybe, and a 4x10 cabinet. At that time we had 6 bandmembers and I actually had two cabs so I would put one on each side of the stage just to keep my bass out of the monitors.

Now we're 4 pc and using the Expo's so the emphasis has been less is more ya know. And like I said I'd really like to try a new Rumble 500 before buying but may not be possible, I know places like Musicians Friend have a great return policy but it would be great to know before and buy if I like it. I'd shop local if they would only have one. Just need to know I will have comparable power for the rock band, I think the 40 is plenty for our acoustic group but since the 500 is only like 36 lbs it could be a one for all purpose type of amp. Then I'd sell my Kustom 30 watt practice amp and my Line 6 beast.

One other hangup I have is the Line 6 has been nothing but dependable, always a little leery to get rid of something that has served me well and risk something new.

Thanx though.

I know what you mean by getting rid of something dependable. I've made that mistake too many times in the past, only to regret it down the road. I'm just lucky now that I have good stuff. For awhile, I was broke and didn't have an amp at all and had to borrow gear. It can be a gamble, but from what I've seen and experienced, I think the Fender should do alright. Hopefully, I won't have to eat those words. :P
