I'm new to the Forum and pretty much a noob ....

That said, I've got what I am pretty sure is a 1962 Blonde Bassman 50W, model 6G6-A, piggy-back amp and matching 2x12 cabinet that I bought in college and has been collecting dust in my basement on and off for several years. I picked it up when I ran sound for a band that two of my roommates put together and had delusions of musical ability, so I accumulated some gear, including the Bassman ...

The amp works, it's got a little hum, but it will put out some serious sound and from what I can tell it's original except for a couple of the tubes. The label on the inside of the head is pretty faded, but I can read that the Model is "6G6-A" and the Production # that is hand written in in blue ink is "19". There is also a rubber stamped date code of "KL" in the corner, which from what I can tell is December of '61 assembly and the date codes on the transformers are week 46 or 47 of '61 (606146 & 606147), so they make sense as being original. It's got the brown knobs (one is missing), the chrome trim pieces have some light rust spots and the cover material is a bit dirty, but intact. I have no clue how to say for sure if the cloth is original or not, but I'd guess it is based on fading & discoloration ....

The speakers that are in the 2x12 are Fender's with codes of "C20910 67-8940 & C20910 67-8613" in white lettering, which I know aren't original, but I may have the originals in my crawl-space (when I bought the amp, the guy I got it form said he had just changed the speakers and still had the ones he took out, so he gave them to me as "spares")...

The reality is I'll never make use of the amp & cabinet. Rather than let it sit around until my kids have to deal with it years down the road; particularly since from what I can tell, it may be a somewhat special amp... I'm just trying to figure out what a fair price to ask might be; I'm not looking to squeeze every penny out of it I can, but I don't want to give it away either ....

Thanks in advance for your help!
SSSSteve

Somewhere between $2K and $3K would be a reasonable value, contingent upon how dingy the Nubtex is, what kind of shape the grille cloth is, how much corrosion is evident on the hardware (including the chassis) and whether or not you're able to locate the original speakers. The drivers currently installed in the cabinet are Eminence from the mid and late '80s, and brown knobs (if original) would be somewhat of an anomaly as most blonde piggybacks were fitted with the cupcake types in ivory.

Posting some detailed pics would of course be a big help in ascertaining the amp's condition and originality......

It has potential.

Were it mine, I'd have it looking near brand-new in a week. I have every part on hand that this amp needs to return it to showroom-stock.

As it currently sits, I'd peg the value at somewhere in the neighborhood of two large, perhaps a little less.

Yeah, I think you're spot on with the appraisal. When I look at this amp, like you, I see it's potential. Some TLC is all it needs.

+1

I've taken on worse and still put a smile on the client's face. That one would clean up pretty nice, I suspect.

As Don Felder lyricized in "Dirty Laundry", "just give me something, something I can use......"

As long as the fundamentals haven't been tampered with, pretty much anything can be rescued.

Thanks!! You both obviously are looking past the grime and seeing the inner beauty...

Thanks, that is kind of what I thought in terms of value based on my quick research...

As for the restoration, I think that is a project that's better left to someone who can not only restore it, but also enjoy it when the work is done!!

Thanks again!

In that instance, ask two large but take nothing less than $1800.
