Hello,

This is my first post as a proud Fender Rumble 350 user. I recently purchased this amp ... it was used (under a year old but still had stickers, manual, etc. having only been used 2-3 times). Let me just say I love this amp! I have practised with it but haven't gigged yet (soon!).

That being said, I notice that there is a constant loud hiss, even when not playing. I am concerned:

1) that this is either a standard issue with this amp or a defect;
2) that the hiss will be an issue when put through a PA.

Has anyone else had this issue with this amp? Is this normal or should I have it verified? I have researched this and see that others have experienced this but no one is explaining what they've done about it.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

How loud is loud? I know that's pretty subjective, but since you are particularly atuned to the hiss it may seem louder to you than it actually is.

1) If you turn the volume up, does the hiss get louder?
2) Same thing with the treble control. Is the hiss louder with the treble maxed out?
3) Is the hiss diminished with the tweeter turned off?

Thanks for the reply. It is loud enough that when I am alone in a room with the amp, I can hear it clearly. I'm sure it would be inaudible in a bar setting (unless of course the PA picks it up via microphone or DI).

1) If you turn the volume up, does the hiss get louder? The hiss gets a bit louder as the volume goes up, mostly when I reach 7 or 8.

2) Same thing with the treble control. Is the hiss louder with the treble maxed out? The treble control is at 7. If I turn down the treble, the hiss is still there but with much less high end and presence.

3) Is the hiss diminished with the tweeter turned off? It diminishes it a bit but not completely.

I'm starting to think this is just how the amp is made. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for your help.

Plug in your bass, and set your tone controls for 0db boost/cut ('flat') with tweeter on. Overdrive Off. Run at low volume: 9 o'clock.

1) Without playing, but pluged in, how is the hiss/noise?
2) Play a middle E and let it sustain. Again how is the hiss?

My Rumble 350 head is remarkably quiet, yet my Rumble 75 combo has some small amount of operational noise/hiss. This is normal and is to be expected. There is no hiss during playing as all the power from the amp is busy amplifing the incoming bass signal.

If you are still in doubt, take your Rumble 350 combo to an independent electronics technician/repair shop for evaluation. They'll tell you straight away if it's normal operational noise or not.

Rumble On!

Hello,

Ok, I've tried as instructed and the hiss is still present (however diminished having killed some highs). When I start playing, the hiss disappears because, as you say, all the power from the amp is busy amplifing the incoming bass signal. My concern was mostly would that hiss be amplified through mic'ing or DI during downtime (while not playing), having not yet played a gig with the combo. I might get it checked as suggested but, you may be right, this may just be operational hiss. Either way, love this amp ... amazing product!

Thanks again!

hey mmlauzon, have you gotten anywhere with this?

i just purchased the rumble 350 combo. it came in the mail yesterday. when i plugged it in, i immediately noticed the hissing sound, did a search, and found this thread. if it's just the natural sound of the amp, that's fine, i can live with it. but if it's not supposed to do that, i want to get it looked at asap. please let me know if you've made any headway. thanks!

Hello,

No, I haven't had the chance to investigate further. My gut feeling tells me this is just the way the amp is made ... as far as practice, I can deal with it ... I just hope it doesn't become a 'live' issue.

I will probably look into it shortly and will definitely post information if it can be of any help to anyone.
