Hello,
I am at present researching and collecting information regarding the Guitars and Amplifiers that the "Sex Pistols" used between 1975 and 1978.

Glen Matlock played a Fender Bassman in 1975/76.

"Am I correct that it is a Bassman 100 (1972–1977), Silverface piggyback head and cabinet of four 10" or 12" speakers?".

Video: at 1min and 1.30min

Please find a photographs below:

Any help in identifying this Bass Amp would be most appreciated.

All the best.

From the photo that's definitely a silverfaced Bassman 100 on top of a 2x15 cab.

FWIW, When I used to play in punk bands I used to run my 78 Precision through a 74 Bassman 100 over two of the older series Fender Pro 115s and I could hit that 70's punk P sound perfectly. We sounded like you plucked us straight off the bowery in NYC in the late 70's. Those amps can still be had for a half way decent price. Sold mine years back along with my 78 P when money was tight. That amp was awesome.

Were the 2X15's staggered in the cab? If not, it doesn't look high enough for a 2X15 cab with speakers straight, non-staggered. Just asking.

The old 70's Fender Silverface 215s were loaded in the corners of the cabinet instead of down the middle. That's why it's so wide.

Fender did make a 2x15 with the woofs staggered on the diagonal which is what I believe this is, but I am no expert. It's not the square 4x12 cabs such as Stew Cook played in CCR and it doestn't look quite big enough to be one of those wacked out 4x12 pyramid cabs.

Thanks guys. The diagonal setup makes sense for the height. 8)

Many thanks for all your replies - much appreciated.

*** UPDATE ***
The headstock logo font ("TV logo") and maple board date the bass to 1971-1976. The pickguard holes for a missing treble-side tug bar (assuming it's the original pickguard) date it to 1974 or earlier. So my best guess would be a 1971-1974 bass, probably originally sunburst and the body was stripped to natural, that was a trend back then.

The amp is a Bassman 100 with the 4x12" speaker cabinet.
