Just in case anyone has had time to do comparisons, has anyone been able to compare a New Era Fender Rumble 200 or 500 class D combo against a 2012-13 Rumble 350 analog combo?

My local shops do not have the newest Rumbles in stock as yet, but since I have a Rumble 350 analog (in storage) and a Peavey Max 115 Second Edition (class D) - I did a little experimenting. The Class D amp runs much cooler than an analog amp and for that reason alone, from a thermal standpoint, components in a class D amp may have a longer overall life than analog amps (transistor or tube).

Since some of the newest Rumbles are being shipped, if anyone has tested a new generation Rumble 200 or 500 class D against an analog generation Rumble 350 - please let us know what your own testing came up with.

The earlier 350s are class D also; they use the Icepower 125ASX2 power unit.

I can understand your concern about heat, but heat is typically not a worry in modern solid state amps unless the manufacturer totally f'd up the thermal engineering side of the design.

Also, even in a "hot box" (for example, any tube amp with an inverted chassis), even one where there's zero ventilation of internal components, proper component selection can forestall heat-related failures for years. I prefer not to see that type of engineering, though, just on the principle of the thing, and I no longer spend my money on those designs.

I feel comfortable saying that either generation of Rumble will serve you well for many years, and that any failures you experience will be related to user error or AC power problems, unless there was a quality-control problem in manufacturing to begin with.

Good points, Craig and thanks for the input.

For the moment, I'm just wondering if anyone has had an opportunity as yet to test - side by side - the newest Rumbles against last year's Rumbles near the same wattage ratings for ergonomics, features and sound quality under nearly identical 'room acoustic' conditions. Thanks.

Not yet. The new Rumbles won't be here until the end of the month.
