I think it's one of those cases where if you don't offer a stick welder in the guise of a bass amp, you'll lose market share, because everyone else has started offering stick welders. It's just a big spec race now, because anything over a few hundred watts, if you use most/all of them, will get you taken out of the mix by any sound engineer with even half a clue. Or shot if you're still too loud out front.

And if the PA doesn't support bass, how are you going to use all that power anyway. In most cases the PA's gonna be too small and you'll wipe out the mix.

Even if the PA didn't support bass but were still huge, you'd cause yourself some serious damage cranking a stick welder-class amp trying to keep up. That would be like a return to the '70s when we all ran monster backlines 'cause the PAs couldn't handle BG at any reasonable volume. I'm half deaf now from that era, and all I used to run was stuff in the 300 watt range (Coliseum, 370, and occasionally a pain in the aff SVT).

I tried my C_____n BX250 into my pair of Avatar B212 cabs. Man that was loud. More than I'd ever need for gigs where the PA couldn't handle BG.

I've tried my A_____r TH500 into the same cabs. You gotta be kidding me. You could never crank that thing and come away alive.

I tried my G_____n-K_____r MB800 into the same cabs. Total frickin' death machine. It will melt your brain.

500 is the new 250, I guess. And 1000 is the new 500. Wonder what'll happen 2 years from now. Wonder if those amps will have the same cordsets I use to connect my dryer to 220, 'cause they'll need 220. The cordsets will be heavier than the amps.

If I were 40 years younger I'd study to be an ear, nose, and throat surgeon. These new powerhouses are gonna keep those folks busy and rich for sure.

"What?"

BTW, if I were Eminence, I'd really start pushing the D-fend system to the cab OEMs. They're gonna need it when the morons and the drop-tuners and the 5-stringers start cranking these new amps because "the cab is rated at 800 watts so I should be able to" or whatever.

Or else, manufacturers, get those driver RMAs ready. You'll need 'em.

Well, when they come up with a 5 terawatt* bass amp, then I'll be game! I'll get the first one and all of those bassists will be jealous, you'll see!

*Terawatt: The terawatt is equal to one trillion (1012) watts. The total power used by humans worldwide (about 16 TW in 2006) is commonly measured in this unit. :P
