Which 410(s) would work best with this? One of the new re-voiced Rumble 410s, or the recent Fender Bassman Pro 410 Neo?

Flip it and buy 2 new identical ones (1 now, 1 down the road).

On the choice of cabs, see if you can get hold of the sensitivity specs. I remember some time ago on another forum a few folks squawking about the 410 Rumble not being all that efficient.

Also, apart from sensitivity, a premium cab from the same manufacturer is likely to go louder if you can come up with the watts. That's because the manufacturer will probably use drivers with a higher Xmax spec (longer piston stroke, if you will).

What you DON'T want is a cab that's not very sensitive AND can't get all that loud, because all that gets you is a box that sounds flat and lifeless, but you have to run the volume up to achieve even that.

Does weight matter? If so, compare those specs, too.

Go over to TB and read up. Lots of good feedback on those cabs. Don't forget to hit the "club" threads.

Oh, before I forget... Resale value. Almost no one ever takes that into account when they're "running the numbers" pre-purchase.

I like the sound of Neo magnet woofers best. Your choice of Fender's Bassman Pro Neo 410 is a good one. If you wanted to get by with just a single 4 ohm cab then Fender's 610 Neo Bassman Pro would be the one. Forum member Gougedeye was an early adopter and uses his 610 with both his Super Bassman or his Rumble 350 head.

You could always pop the new Rumble 410 on top of the Bassman Neo 410 when needed, but matching Neos would be best.

Thanks for the warm welcome and responses Linnin and Craig!

I read Gougedeye's post reviewing his Rumble 350 and 610 Neo (pre super bassman) and that it killed. I've also read other posts about the Rumble 350 combo blowing (rumble) 10s. And posts that rewiring cabs from 8 to 4 ohms doesn't work. Maybe with (4)10s it does, I don't know.

I have also read posts that suggest that more cone surface and cone excursion pushes more air and pushing more air is key outdoors (so more cabs).

In light of all that, I think I might be better off, since I have one 410 Neo on the way, to get a matching 410 Neo, and use one for smaller applications, and both for outdoors.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and your responses!

I have the 350 combo and never had an issue blowing anything yet, but I haven't exactly been running it full bore constantly, and I also know how to EQ my amp. I've noticed a lot of bassists can be clueless in such matters and can run into problems. Guitarists aren't exactly exempt from this, too. :P I've actually had the unfortunate circumstance of jamming with a band one time where one of them was trying to sound like rap bass from a car. He was trying to pump a lot of low end into his rig and it sound like someone farting with a plastic bag on their arse cranked 120 decibels. Needless to say, that didn't work out.

I've thought about the new head, but if I were to get anything, it would be the 500 combo stacked with the 15" cab. It would make the most sense for my situation, and it's a configuration I've had good results with in the past. Of course, that's a big if, since there are plenty of other choices in bass amps coming out this year, and I'm uncertain if I still want to give Fender my business anymore. Not because of the quality of their amps (they're great,) but their customer service sucks. Plus, I've had my eye on a couple of new 1000 watt heads and am thinking why not go out for the big guns? I don't need 1000 watts, but I think it might be fun to be ridiculously loud once in a while. You could laugh at those "puny" Marshall stacks. :P Of course, you'll need the cabs to pump it.

That's reassuring to hear with your 350. Yes, I understand the theory of EQ'ing, and that you don't get progressively higher bass volume by cranking the low end, and should use a HPF to cut out sub-bass (which can damage your rig), and that for outdoors, you tend to want to push the mids a little more in order to cut through the mix. I'll have to find a good explanation of frequency ranges and what they do to your sound and how they affect the band's sound (saw one in the last week or so). Maybe I'll pick up a 10 band to assist with this, as I hear that's one of the weak points of the new Rumble heads.

I'll have to admit, I had been eyeing the MBF800, but when I saw that Fender was coming out with new Rumbles and heard the clips, I think I'll be happy with those.

Hopefully I won't need customer service. I'd never had to use Markbass customer service, and hopefully won't have to with the Fender gear, but time will tell.

In the 80's I used to gig with a silverface Bassman and a folded horn cab. I quit playing bass for a long time, but lately I've been playing for my church (IEM/DI), and my old band's going to be getting back together occasionally, so I'm hoping to coax some good tone out of this new rig, from clean & warm, to light overdrive, to light grit. Here's hoping!

Thanks CPL!

You're welcome Ed. Glad we could be of some help. There's only a dozen or so regularly active bassmen here, but a tremendous amount of knowledge. We used to have a few basswomen, but they've drifted away.

I don't don't see how anyone could know of any tonal weaknesses with the new Rumble heads. I'm interested to know what frequencies the tone controls are voiced. In the Rumble 75 & 150 they are: bass@80hz; low-mids@400hz, high-mids@1,200hz, and treble@10Khz.

Here's a tone thread I started that might help  http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=89510

Yeah, the Rumble seems to be a decent amp, as far as the current ones are. I'm sure the new ones are probably pretty good, too. I've never had bad luck with Fender bass amps (although there are those who have on here with guitar ones, so nothing is set in stone) and my current beef with them has nothing to do with that department. From what I've been seeing, they should be coming out in the next couple of months, so we'll see how they pan out.

I want to hear the new rumbles with the new tone setup. I happen to really like the sweeping parametric style mid on my 2012 rumble 350. I wasn't sure I would. I use very little mid but, the sweeping control lets me find what I want easily. It has been a pleasant surprise.

 New published arrival dates: AMS = 03/19/2014. Musician's Friend now has the entire new Rumble line on their website and state a date of 04/03/2014. Sweetwater has no published date and simply says "Arriving Soon!". I've got in requests for email alerts when in stock. It'll be interesting!

Of course that's the projected date, so hopefully there won't be another fiasco like there was with the Squier Bass VI. That thing is still on back order. Also, hopefully the quality control will be better with these than the Squier was as well. In any case, I'd wait a while until after the first shipments come out to check these out and not pre order anything. Just in case.

Per http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/new-f ... e-1050019/, eudaimonia from Europe bought a Rumble 500 head in a store today and took it home and gave it a short test drive. Wonder when they'll hit the states?

Yeah, I read that and I don't believe it for half a second. :?

QC is a concern when pre-release clamor arises, IMO. Will popular demand create an urgency to just get the product out the door. Shareholders want to know!

I saw your post there Linnin, urging people to put their foot back in their mouth until they have heard/experienced the Rumbles. Old or new.

Good show.

Who knows? I know I should have waited when I ordered that damned Squier Bass VI, instead of jumping on it right away and getting a really bad lemon. But that's all water under the bridge now, since that has been taking care off. I've heard from others that finally got theirs that they didn't have any issues, so perhaps that the QC over there got a boot in the arse. That's always a good thing.

You know after waiting for these new series to come out, and it seems the older ones being dropped, I'm kind of bummed that those are going away. These were and are good amps and I know the 350 combo served me well. Hopefully, these new ones will live up to their predecessors. I suppose the great thing is that now is a good time to scoop up an older one in new condition at a great price, while they're still in stock. I was hoping to get another 350 combo at this lower price, but the funds are iffy right now, unless they still have them available in June (doubtful, but stranger things have happened.) So, if the 350 craps out (which I hope doesn't happen,) I'll have to replace it with a new 500 (if I want a similar amp and not used,) or go another route all together. Speaking of which, I suppose the 5 year warranty is still in effect, even though it's no longer being made? I wonder how that's going to play out? I've heard they just replaced your amp instead of fixing it.
