I finally played through the Rumble 500 Head. What Trash! NOT!!! A very good Amp Head. I highly recommend this head. It has the real world sound to it, without extra crap on it. Fender did great job putting this together.

This is the setup with the 500 head. I ran the Rickenbacker 4003 through it. I knew if it did good with a 4003, the Precision.or the Jazz would do well also.

I don't know. I have it covered to keep the dust out of the cab.

Has anyone done any comparison between the new Rumble 500 combo and the old 350 combo (or heads for that matter?) I have one of those 350 combos I bought a couple of years ago and of course now they have these new ones. I like my 350 combo and it's still kicking pretty good, but I'm curious about any differences.

If anything, I might pick up one of the smaller amps (perhaps the 40 model) for a practice amp. The 350 is really too loud and big for the tiny room I'd use it for. It's a great gig and rehearsal amp, though.

Tomorrow, Friday, I'm heading down to the Davenport Guitar Center to order a Rumble 500 head and a Rumble 115 cab, or at least that's my thinking as of today. I've got it down to that rig or a 500 combo, but I see GC has them on order, due on the 24th. My dilemma is I have an outdoor gig next Wednesday, the 25th, but this is the first I've had the funding. I sold my Markbass rig for the old school tone of the new Rumble series and I know I won't be disappointed. I'll let you know my impressions upon it's arrival.

Newsflash: And the purchase was made a few hours ago. Grabbed a 15% discount along with a trade-in of a Douglas Pisces, which brought next to nothing. All in all, a fun experience except for the fact I brought nothing home but a receipt. Next week the rig will get tested right away with a mid-week gig...if it makes it here on time!

I was in Richmond yesterday and finally got to audition a pair of version 3 D-Class Rumbles. Guitar Center only had the 40 and the 100 combos in stock. I like what Fender has done to the front end. The low mids are voiced at 280 Hz vs 400 Hz for the 2nd gen 75 & 150.

The 100 is just ever so slightly larger in footprint than the 40 and couple of inches taller and 4 lbs. heavier. Killer little amp! I was able to dial in a great tone right away. I liked the 'Vintage' shape button combined with a touch of overdrive ( 9o'clock on both the drive and blend works wonders) for a very tubey vibe ala Fender silverface Bassman 100.

The Rumble 40 sounded very good, but for only $120 more the 100 is far and away the better choice with more than twice as many watts and the Eminence 12 was a better woofer than the "Fender Special Design" 10 in the 40.

Very disappointed in Guitar Center that no Rumble 200's or 500's were available.

Good to see you gotta chance to try our a couple of the new versions. I think the 100 would be a terrific grab-n-go combo for jams or small gigs. It's voiced much the same as its larger siblings so you at least have an idea what the 200 and 500 sound like.

I spent some time this afternoon with my Zoom MS-60B pedal into the 500 and other than the modulation effects, I thought the Rumble sounded better than any of the available amp models or distortions. I'd run with a particular amp, even their Bassman 100, and then back to the 500 without anything and the Rumble was much more pleasant to the ear. It's truly a great-sounding amp.

I also began experimenting with the amp's distortion section. I'm probably the last guy to have messed around with it, but I play clean on almost everything. We're doing "Pinball Wizard" right now and I decided a little dirt might not hurt, so tomorrow I think I'll try your setting suggestion using the vintage tone. I just need a touch of grind.

My next project is a second 115 cabinet. I really like what I'm hearing, but need a larger sound field. I think that ought to do it too.

Again, glad you were able to audition the V3s, Linnin.

Paul, I have a 350 combo. I was in a local music shop and played around with the 500 combo. I wasn't able to crank it up since I was in the store but the sound quality of the 500 is as good as if not better than the 350. It weighs a lot less than the 350 also. I am considering getting a 500 combo just because of the weight.

There is only one factor to me - the tone!
Is the new 500 another average sounding combo, is it a box of full bodied deep fat sound, like EBS or Trace Elliot, of how would you describe it?

The Rumble 500 is way better than average in sound and tones.

Played a Kala U Bass through a Rumble 500 today. What an amazing combination.

Can you describe the tone (flat) compared to other amps?

Full & Fabulous Fender Tone! Thick; Rich, Powerful, and LOUD! Soaring highs that sparkle. Positively HUGE midrange. Low mids that growl menacingly. High mids that snarl savagely. A tight; full, round bottom end that thrusts mightily with authoritative punch and attack!

All other solid state amps are mere wimps that cower it the corner whenever a Fender Rumble enters the room.

You need to go try one out for yourself, isteen! There are plenty of positive comments and mini reviews right here in this thread if you'll take the time to read them.

Also tons of them here too -> http://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-rumble-club.970397/page-60 go back to about page 30 and start.
