Hi out there.
I am planning to get a Rumble 350 head. I am in doubt about the cabinets. Can someone tell me what would the difference be between a rig composed by 1x12 and a 2x8 in respect to the 4x10? I am aware that there two different types of speakers inside.
I mean sound, loudness, distortion... you know, all this stuff.
Since we play from small (weddings...) to medium size gigs (700 people) I just want to make sure I buy the right stuff.
I like the fact that with a split rig I can take only one cabinet with me for small gigs (I am aware that the output will drop to aorund the half, but that would be more than enough) and two for larger gigs.
I also see that the wattage of the 4*10 is higher than the two other cabinets together, but maybe this is not so relevant. Thanks for any help.

I don't see either of those cabinets as a particularly efficient use of the amp's potential. One or the other of them *might* have something to offer in a studio but the 4 x 10 enclosure will move more air per watt of input power. Remember -- it's a band's rhythm section (bass and drums) that gets a dancer's feet moving at a live venue -- if they don't feel that vibe, they'll likely spend they're time kibbutzing at the punch bowl or stuffing their faces with canapés at the snack table instead of grooving to your music.

The Rumble 410 is heavy (76 lbs) due to it's MDF construction. It's got the same 10" ceramic magnet made-in-china Fender Special Design woofers, so it's going to sound very much like the 350 combo but move twice as much air and be louder.

The Rumble NEO cabs are light (less than 30 lbs). I like the 112 cabs and would love to have two of them to go with my Rumble 350 head.

I've not played through the 2 x 8 cab and cannot comment.

A bigger and much more expensive option ($1400) is the Fender Bassman Pro Neo 610 cab. The testimonials from the few folks that own this cab is that it is absolutely fabulous, and I do not doubt that one bit.

And if you like 15's there's the Bassman Pro Neo 115 cabs too. So you do have a lot of great Fender choices available.

Yeps, a lot of choices! This is really my issue. The Bassman are out of my reach, so that it is easy. For the others, I started with the 410, then the 112 and the 2X8 models came into the picture being lighter and - let's say - more "modern"... so here is where I stand now.
Mmmhhhh... not easy. And just listening to them for half an hour will not help much.

I have found that the Eminence Neo magnet driven woofers simply sound better than ceramics. I like the sound of E-Neo 12's best. The Rumble 112's are excellently designed cabs with plenty of good tight low end response and midrange meat. That's why I want them.

What ever you do, check out the impedance's of the head, and cab, or cabs. It can be an important factor.

If you have budget restraints, or want something more portable, the Rumble 350 combo is another excellent option. I have one of those and have had no issues what so ever with mine so far. It has plenty of juice, like the head, but just all in one unit. It has 10" speakers though, if those aren't your tonal preference. They have plenty of low end, though and from what I've read (I don't own one so I don't know) can handle the low B on a 5-string.

I was wondering about that. I remember you mentioned those a while back about getting those cabs. So what have you been running the head through then?

I have a Rumble 350 head and 2X8 cab. I want to add one of the other Rumble cabs, but I have not decided which one. I did not see a reply about this so, has anyone tried using two of the 2X8 cabs together? I need to get the full rated power from the amp and was wondering if I should go with the 1X12 or the 2X8.

I have a Rumble 350, very fine amp, and run it through a 4x8 cab and a 1x15 cab. My 4x8 sounds very respectable on its own but, the 15" really adds the meat I want. I would get the 12" speaker for that reason. There may be amount of air moved issues that may argue against the 12" instead of two more 8" speakers but, my suggestion arises from concern for the 'sound' produced. It is understood that "sound" has considerable subjectivity to it.

A pic of my rig. Ignore what is on top of it, a Rumble 350 now occupies that spot.

Hi out there! Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. If I recap the answers I arrive to the following conclusions:
1) linnin states that the 1x12 is a great cabinet and that he would like to have another one.
2) bigampdaddy has one 2X8 cabinet, but he does not states whether he is satsified with, but he would, maybe add another one. Because of this I extrapolate that he is happy with the cabinet.

My preliminary conclusion is that the configuration 1 2x8 and 1 1X12 cabinet should be a good one. This is basically also what Fender proposes.

I am not an expert but I imagine that this configuration will give me an output power of 500W RMS (250W for eac cabinet) correct?

If this is true the final question is if the 4X10 sounds better/worse than the combination above. Apparnelty the NEO speakers seems to have a better sound than the Ceramic ones. If all this is true the double the 2X8 + 1X12 configuration should be best.
If I add to that the fact that they are more lightweight and that they give me more flexibility, so I am almost making a decision.
E.g. when I play in small enclosure, I can just take the 2X8 with me. I know that - because of the Ohms difference - the head will "only" output around 200W, but for indoors parties with up to 100 people that should be enough. I would appreciate if you could give me your opinion on the matter. I would laso have the feedback from "bigampdaay" about the sound quality of the 2X8. Thanks a lot

HI, I am very happy with the sound of the 2X8. I used to use it at my church, but I was asked to stop bringing it and just go direct to the board. I was told I was "overpowering" the choir and orchestra. I think it was just a case of a few people complaining. Only the drummer and myself have ever played out in live bands.

As to the sound, I am very happy with it. It is so light and easy to load and carry. The problem I have is that even at rehearsals, I play in an eight piece horn band, I have to turn up to at least half way to hear myself. I want the additional eight ohm cabinet so I can pull the full rated power from the amp. And to move more air, of course.

I will probably go with the 1X12 as it is light and the majority of the posts seem to favor the 2X8/1X12 combination. I may be able to buy it this weekend, and if I do I will post a review for the forum.

Her is a link to photos of myself playing out for the first time with my new band. You cannot see the amp, unfortunately, but I certainly heard it. http://s169.photobucket.com/user/Ivabiggun/library/Wildlife%20band

Hi bigampdaddy, thanks, and, yes, it would be interesting, in the case you buy the 1X12, to post a review of the combination 2X8 + 1X12. I thinkI am getting oriented towards that direction myself.
