Hi! I need help.

I have a Behringer BX3000T amp head, designated 1x4 ohms and 2x8 ohms output (parallel).

I looked at the back of my Behringer cab, and saw it was rated 8 ohms impedance. This surprised me, as I understand it to be bad for the head to be lower impedance than the cab.

What's going on? I want to bring my head to a gig, and their cabinet is also 8 ohms impedance. I just sincerely am confused as to whether or not I've been damaging my amp all along without knowing it, or what.

Thanks guys...

Or, is it simply less ideal for a 4 ohm to be going into an 8 ohm cab, i.e it won't draw full power? And an 8 ohm head going into a 4 ohm cab is what's bad.

That's correct. If your amp is designed to deliver full power into a 4 ohm load, it will very happily power an 8 ohm cabinet at reduced wattage which is usually about half.

Two 8 ohm cabs in parallel present a 4 ohm load to the amp. That would be optimal, or a single 4 ohm cab. Most amps very quickly go into thermal meltdown at 2 ohms and self-destruct rapidly if a fuse doesn't blow first.

Perfect. Thanks for the reaffirmation/clarity, mate.
