The rig came yesterday. Nice. The fan makes a little more noise than I expected based on reviews, so I am going to check into that. Not bad, but not silent as advertised. Hauling it to practice tomorrow. Put a little fear into our lead player.

So...? What happen next? Is your Lead Player scared of you now? Does he think he needs new gear?

Nikola, All SWR's are solid-state, AFAIK. Played with a guy that has a Redhead. A very nice amp. I own a Strawberry Blonde, for my Martin. It's about 15 years old. Very reliable.

Took the Super and both cabs to practice...bwa ha ha.

Really enjoying it but still have not been able to crank it. At practice I went up about a third and was rattling the wall hangings, pictures, stuff on shelves and windows. Still sounded good. Some reviews have said the cabs cannot take the power up higher without rattling, etc, so I still need to test that.

So far, very much enjoying it.

That's a good sign -- it means the amp has ample reserve power for the more demanding situations.

I find 15's sound great indoors and not so great outdoors. I prefer 10's outdoors as they cut through better for me. I think you'll really like that 4x10 and the huge tube head. Love the 15's here also, but they just don't sound as good outdoors as indoors. So you may have an amp issue, but it may be that the amp is fine and the 15's just were doing what 15's do outdoors.

Your info about 15's and 10's I found very helpful. It makes great sense as well. I enjoy all of your contributions. Your lengthy posts are particularly juicy. :D

When my bassist brother is feeling particularly cruel, he'll wire up a pair of Acoustic 370's.

He likes to watch the rubble bounce.

I had one of those cabs. Great projection......off stage. Onstage, with the waveform not fully formed, I found it hard to hear what my actual sound was. 10's and 18" reflex cab(s) would probably form a very good outdoor rig.

However, as light a rig as possible with the PA doing the heavy lifting is my preferred setting.

He recently picked up a vintage SVT with a single 8x10 cab to use as a stage monitor.

I think you have nailed it. I think it is just the 2x15 outdoors. I put my Bassman 135 head on my 4x10/1x15 stack and it pushed it just fine. I am really amazed at how good the 10s sound, even at lower volume in my music room, but glad I have that 1x15 too as it make my old brain feel better. Such improvements have been made.

The 8x10 is the biggest seller with the Super Bassman, at least down here. It's just too much for me to haul comfortably. The two cabs I have are maybe 50, I think less, with the 4x10 being the heavier. Actually, the amp is the heaviest piece. I think that is pushing 70. I wouldn't want to carry it a long way, but putting it on top is no biggie, this year anyway.

Going to hate to see the vintage set go, but it is just too big to keep two of them.
