I was surprised to see the detail that is going on in that cabinet.
Yeah, if you mean the slot-porting scheme, that is a pretty good piece of work for that era.

The extra wood sure adds weight.
Actually the thing that adds weight is all the MDF (vs plywood) Peavey used. That crap weighs a ton. But it helped them keep the price down.

I got mine with two EV 15's. I still have one of them. The other is a Seismic audio replacement.
Ouch. 2 non-identical drivers = trouble. (Phase/delay problems up and down the frequency range.).

I guess playing with it can't cost too much unless I start needing to find the "perfect" speaker(s). I perfectly good idea sound-wise. However, the fiscal danger aspect looms in the equation.
Understood. If you ever decide to start on it, though, let me know and we'll run a couple of models so you nail the driver choice 1st time. I'm estimating $250 or maybe a little less in drivers.

So what was the process in doing it?

Step 1: Waste Your Money

Step 2: Waste Your Time

This was a complete failure. Don't Do It.

Well, look at it this way: You never really know for sure unless you try. It could have also been a success, too. Perhaps the concept was sound, but maybe the materials used wasn't the right choice?

Some bass cabs don't require much, or any baffling due to the cab's design, and or speaker. 12's for one, are pretty middle of the road, a good punch, with not much blair.

Here's the modification thread. The outcome is far better than I at first thought.

OK now, getting back on track

For the bigger 350 & 150 Rumble combos along with the Rumble 410 cab, you really can't go wrong with the 2 1/2" eggcrate acoustic foam that Craig P. advocated. My experiance with it has been in recording studios where it was used on walls & ceilings of vocal booths. It's good and it works. I'd put in on the back panel or 'wall' only, and you could get away with just that alone and just leave the rest naked. The eggcrate pattern really breaks up any standing sound waves and either absorbs them or scatters them.

In small boxes the Sonic Barrier is better. Automotive sound specialists mostly rave about it for use in small sub-woofs. It worked fine in my Rumble 75. The 1/2" Sonic Barrier is really all you need. It's very dense and heavy. Excellent stuff to line the side 'walls' and 'ceiling' of your cab or combo.

The real answer is in purchasing "certain" cabinets that already perform superior compared to the other certain cabinets talked about. I know...... the certain hi-performance cabinets are a bit more expensive but they have pretty much worked out the sonic problems and things like sound to size and weight ratios. . There is a company also that has maintained a style of cabinets for many years that still has a solid time tested design . They kick butt and I get in trouble all the time with mine. Not really my fault---- I blame it on the soundman. He likes bass. Of course we all know all of the companies that produce the shizzell and it's all about the green. I wrote it down anyway. :D
