Anyone tried using a Rumble 150 as a keyboard amp? I was wondering what settings worked out best.

ACK! Noooooooooooooooooo! Don't Do It.

Sure you plug anything in a Fender Rumble Bass Amp, BUT that does not mean that you should.

Get a powered PA speaker cab: EV; QSC, JBL, or Mackie. Take your pick. That'll sound much MUCH better. Costs a little more and you may need a pre-amp to push the power amp section of the speaker. You need a full range cab that is designed to reproduce an entire band. Get one with a 12" full range driver + a horn. That'll do ya.

You're Welcome

Or you could get a keyboard or multi-purpose amp, if you don't want to mess with PA gear, too. It's funny, when Fender had the Fender Rhodes in the 60's, they engineered it to run through a Fender Twin combo. That's what they used to test them. At least that's what I read on the Fender Rhodes site.

Agreed! The Awesome Fender-Rhodes through an 'Evil Twin' rocked! Elvis also sang through a Fender Twin Reverb at the West Virginia State Fair. The Rumble 150, as good as it is for bass, is no Fender Twin Reverb.

I know. That's one amp I want to get if I ever get the money for one. I know the Beatles used them, too. That's what sort of got me into Fender amps to begin with. They just looked cool in their photos. Well, plus the sound, too.

Besides the horn being inadequate for keys, the EQ voicing and the preamp are both all wrong. If I was looking for a keyboard amp I'd be looking at MOTION SOUND. The main KB guy I play with uses Motion Sound and they are totally amazing, sounding just like a Leslie but way louder and they have an XLR direct out. The JBL PRX powered speakers work good for keys too but no Leslie effect. Essentially you need a flat preamp and unbiased EQ which is hard to find on a bass amp these days as even when set flat there is still a weighting toward the bass side. The horns in most bass amps are not designed for the kind of constant honking required with a keyboard.

I imagine with the 10" speakers and the horn on that amp, you'd get good coverage with your sound. You can always add a 15" cab (or an 18" if you want) for extra bottom end.
