It's ironic how 12's lost favor in the early 70's, but lately are showing a good resurgence. I'm glad I'm back using 12's again. 8)

I liked the concept of using a 4x12" cab for bass. I remember Peavey had one back around the early 2000's. I'm still partial to 18"s and 15"s, though.

Cool. 8) What have you been using with that head in the meantime, or have you been using it?

I have been using a borrowed Trace Elliot 2x15 cab (with Celestion woofs) when I play out. I have played 15" woofers the vast majority of my bass playing 'career'. The 12" Eminance Neo woofer I installed in my Rumble 75 really opened my mind, and I much prefer the sound quality of a Neo 12 over a ceramic magnet 15. They have better clean depth than either a 10" or a 15" woof. Pretty punchy with super solid mids, and good clean; clear highs. The 12" Eminance Neo has become my woof of choice.

I'll admit I have very little experience in using 12"s, other than some cheesy practice amps and guitar related gear. It's either been 15"s or 10"s, or both. Mostly a single 15" with the occasional 2x10" cab thrown in when I had one. I've used a 2x15" cab in rehearsal studios a few times and I was able to use a monster 2x18" and 2x10" Sonic cab paired with a Gallien Krueger 800 RB head when I jammed with this dude who worked at a music store and had all kinds of crap, including that beast. Talk about some punishing low end! I never moved it, though. It just sat in his garage and we never got far enough to go gig, nor have I ever had to move any 2x15" cabs. Probably a good thing so I wasn't crippled by the time I hit 30. :P

I imagine besides what you said, a 12" would be sort of an in between speaker compare with a 10" and 15" one's properties. I've never thought much about it, maybe because for most of the time I've been playing in over 25 years, it wasn't something that was readily available as far as bass cabs go for me. It was either 15"s, 10"s, or a few 18"s thrown in here or there. It's funny how things come and go with gear. I might just look into that as a possibility to add in the future for amplification. You never know until you try something.

 Well the Rumble 112 Neo cabs are now history along with 2x8 cabs, so once the supply of stock is sold off they are gone forever. The only Fender bass amp with a 12 will be the new Rumble 100 ceramic magnet 1x12 combo. The good thing is Fender is stating they are using all Eminance woofers instead of "Fender Special Design" woofs. I think it's just a matter of semantics and paying Eminance a little extra to use their good name.

It's a shame about those cabs ending. At least the bass amplifier thread is getting some activity. :D

I am smiling knowing those 12" cabs are headed your way, Linnin.

Did you use the payment plan with the one from AMS? That can be a big help so you can split up the payments in monthly installments. That's how we paid off that Passport 500. They had a 10 or 12 pay deal on it on it so it was around $100 or so a month and we got it right away. It took almost a year to pay it off, but at least it's not much money up front in case something happens and you need a bunch of cash, yet stuck with a huge bill for gear at one time. Plus, it doesn't hurt the credit score. Because nothing says "rock and roll" like financial responsibility. :P

When do you expect they'll discontinue them? I suppose it's probably likely since they didn't change the design to match the new ones. I think they should keep them, but I guess I'm not their marketing department, am I?

 If you want to stay in business, you have to make what sells, and discontinue what doesn't. Sunn and SWR are both on 'the shelf', and Genz Benz struggles to find its market niche.

The Rumble line is revamped and reintroduced. The Neo 112 & 2x8 cabs are history. But you know at $400 a piece the Rumble 350 'mini-stack' w/ neo 112 & 2x8 was a very formidable gig rig for a very reasonable $1200. Which is about half of what the competition costs.

To my ears Rumbles' sound quality/tone trounces: Ampeg; GK, Aguilar, and MarkBass. Lesser brands such as: Peavey; T.C. Electronics, or Hartke aren't even in the same tone park and have to go live in the homeless b'amp shelter.

That's true about what sells, especially with the economy like it has been in the past few years. Another thing, where else are you going to get a combo amp as the Rumble 350 as powerful and with the tonal features for around $500 brand new? Now they have a Rumble 500 version that looks like it's the same price.

I'm curious about this, if it's using the same Bang and Olufsen power amp module? The 350 really runs at least 400 or so according to the schematics and apparently that module goes to 500. They always said it was conservatively rated, anyway. I know it has some balls, either way. Unless I'm wrong, the new combo is wired to be able to take another cab, so it's probably something like 350 in 8 ohms and 500 into 4 ohms with an 8 ohm cab (like the new 15" cab.) That's what it seems like they usually do.

I know Carvin's 500 head and combo version was 300 then 500 into 4 ohms and 500 into 2 ohms kind of deal. Now they upped the ante with a new 700 watt head with 300 at 8 ohms/550 at 4 ohms/700 at 2 ohms. I have no idea what's in the brains of theirs and like I mentioned previously, I'm apprehensive about them because you can only get them from their locations in California, which is a larger gamble than me simply ordering from AMS with their 45 day guarantee where I can just ship it back with no hassle, or order from them anytime I want and usually get it within two days brand new in a box. Besides, Fender's amps are usually good quality (even though I've had my issues with some of their guitars and basses and it's always been neck-related every single time,) and sound good, too.

If you read forums and reviews (ignoring trolls, of course) around the web relating to different amps, they usually are in good standing. Of course, you can debate whether if the ones from the 60's are better than the reissues, or the BXR's are better than the ones Joe Blow designed in the 90's, or whatever but they are usually consistent in some way or other. I think amps is one thing they can do good and always have. Now watch my Rumble 350 blow up now that I've said that. :P Now that will really piss me off, because I don't want to have to switch to Peavey so I have something that runs for my gigs coming up. They work well, and are usually pretty loud, but tonally don't do it for me like the Fender does. It's like trading in Newcastle Brown Ale (or pick whatever beer you might like) for Busch, not to say that Busch is really bad, I spent my underage years drinking it because that's what my older brother drank most of the time. That honor would befall a horrendous concoction known as Beer 30. I made the mistake of trying that a couple of years ago as part of some sick curiosity and it was the only thing I ever drank that actually physically hurt me like I swallowed the can in shards. Not recommended. If you can handle that, then I salute you. :P

Cool 8) There's nothing like opening the door and seeing that big ol' box sitting there. It's like Christmas when you're a kid.
