You forgot about the Mexican Standard Fretless Jazz and there's the Squier version with that weird plastic fretboard, or whatever material that is. I wish I could afford the American one, but I'd probably wind up with the Mexican. It's OK, because don't forget you can always modify them down the road. In fact, I have a Leo Quan Badass bridge I could use, if needed. I put one of those on a Hohner fretless Jazz copy I had once and it made a massive difference in sound. That was a nice bass, by the way. They don't make them anymore, though.

I'll bet those are nice pickups. 8)

Question: Since the Rumble 350 has a tweeter, wouldn't the Legend BP102 work as well or better?

Thanks.

Yes, they'll work just fine. Just slightly lighter magnets: 38oz vs 45oz. Like half a dB less sensitivity. Big Whoop. B102's have quite a bit more top end. Compare the charts. I happen to like Eminence's Basslite neos, but you'd have to step up to the Deltalites in order to handle the 350 watts. They'll all work. Just take your pick and remember to replace in pairs, and not just one.

I am getting quite a bit of distortion out of my Rumble 350. Very noticeable at lower volumes but present at all volumes. It sounds like the overdrive is cranked on all the time.

When I plug in headphones: no problem. Clean, pure sound at all volumes.

I took the amp to Orange County Speaker and they tested it and found the speakers to be fine.

Could it be a problem with the 125ASX2?
Anyone else experienced this?
Fix it yourself?

I'm handy enough with a soldering iron.

OK, lets follow this.
1) you blew out speaker.
2) you replaced them both with a new pair of Eminence. Yes or No?
3) now you have distortion at all volume levels.

Negative.

I was (and am) experiencing distortion at all volumes.
I thought I might have blown speaker(s).
Took it to Orange County Speaker and they tested and declared speakers to be fine.
They are an Eminence dealer. Speaker were not replaced because they didn't think they were damaged.

Here's the diagnostics:
Bass -> cord -> amp INPUT = distortion at all volumes.
Bass -> cord -> amp INPUT -> HEADPHONES jack = clean pure sound.
Bass -> cord -> EFFECTS LOOP RETURN = distortion at all volumes.
iPod -> AUX IN = distortion at all volumes.
iPod -> AUX IN -> HEADPHONES = clean pure sound.

The distortion sounds like fairly strong OVERDRIVE.

Any suggestions on further diagnostics?

Send to your nearest Authorized Fender Service Center for repair. Good thing you didn't just put in a new pair of speakers. 8)

UPDATE
CliffNotes:
Has anyone actually put BP102 or B102 in the Rumble 350 cabinet?
Bolt circle is non-standard diameter.

I [finally] took it into the Fender regional service center and the chief tech tested and found that one of the speakers is, indeed, bad. The voice coil is rubbing and you can hear it. Of course, that's out of warranty so my option was to buy new OEM speakers (matched pair) or for $20 more, put in a pair of Eminence BP102.

At this point my disappointment is at about 3 out of 10 because I had already assumed at least one speaker was bad at the beginning of this quest. I drive across town to Orange County Speaker, which is the real deal and an Eminence retailer.

Not so fast! Has anyone actually put BP102 or B102 in the Rumble 350 cabinet? The bolt circle for the Eminence is fully 1/4" smaller dia. than the Chinese bolt pattern. Drilling new holes for the tee-nuts would put the holes right at, if not breaking through, the edge of the main round speaker cut-out.

OC Speaker can recone -- it's what they do -- but at $65, it's just $15 more to get the new Chinese replacement speaker from Fender.

At this point my disappointment is at about 8 out of 10. I am not happy with any of the immediate alternatives.

I drive the amp back to the Fender regional service center where it sits, awaiting my call whether to replace speakers or not.

At this point my disappointment is at about 5 out of 10, mostly due to Paul Morte at the Fender warranty facility and his calm and helpful assessment of my options.

I'm leaning toward replacing just that bad speaker then throwing this lemon up on Craigslist.

P.S. The clock is ticking. There are only 10 or so of these speakers in the U.S. with, I'm told, no chance of resupply.

Wow Scott sounds like you've been cursed!

Quite a few folks have replaced the stock 10's with various Eminence both in the 350 combo and the the V2 410 cab. It's all been plug and play. They bolt right in without any mods. I put an Eminence Basslite in my Rumble 75 with ease. Do a search over at TalkBass. One Rumble Club member bought a damaged Rumble 350 combo super cheap on ebay and put in a pair of Eminence B102's that he also picked up from ebay. His report was all positive with no mention of any modifications needed.

Best of luck to you and I hope you break that jinx. 8)

Yesterday it sure did feel like a curse.

I had a speaker right over the hole and saw where the drilled holes would have to be and it was not good.

I guess my specific build/serial number used a different speaker. (Whatever they had on the shelf?)

I don't feel cursed today.
Disappointed.
Like I was suckered -- taken advantage of.
I just feel beaten down.

Now that the new speakers are in and the memory of paying the cash out of my pocket is growing dim, I can appreciate having a powerful clean-sounding amp!

Anyone need an OEM Rumble 350 10" speaker? I got one good spare just sitting here. I'm guessing it would work well in a Rumble 30, too.
