I've noticed that Ampeg has an 800 watt Portaflex head out now. I wonder if Fender will be so bold with the Rumble series, which is relatively in the same price range as the Ampeg Portaflex series. If it's built the same way as the 350, then it should be loud as hell. Great for peeling the paint of your walls and contributing to that lovely ringing in your ears. :P

800 watts? I'd be afraid to plug that in at the house. That much juice could do real damage to you electrical system, I'd think.

I don't think a Chinese-made transformer will last long with that, either.

No Thanks, but there is a watts race going on. I just hope Rumbles keep their sound.

That's 800 "Ampeg Watts." I learned a long time ago that "Ampeg Watts" are not the same watts everyone else uses. I don't know how they come up with their power ratings but I've always found that Ampeg is "liberal" with the power ratings. I figure if Ampeg says it is an 800 watt head then it will be about the same loudness as about anyone else's 350 to 400 watt head. I have had three USA made solid state Ampegs over three different decades and not once did I think any of them sounded as loud as they should have for the power rating spec. The SVT tube amps do sound their rated power (used a SVT & SVTII for years) but not their solid state heads.

The Portaflex series are class D amps.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah, I never had anything that big, but the closest was I slaved a Peavey Databass 450 watt combo and Peavey Mark IV half stack running at 210 watts together one time. I didn't crank it hard, though. I wanted to utilize two 15"s and the Databass could only run it's internal one. That was a pretty decent amp, by the way. It had some balls to it. It kept up with my friend at the times Peavey 130 Special, or whatever that thing was called, and he loved to crank that thing up. That was one loud guitar amp! In fact, I had to buy the Databass because of him. It was ridiculous, but we were teenagers. Man, that seems like 100 years ago, now.

I had an old Ampeg tube head and 8x10. I swear, the Fender BXR300 15' combo I once owned was actually louder.

I played through a later 80's Ampeg SVT Studio today. I think it was part of the "blue line" series or whichever. It had little 8' speakers, and sounded wonderful. Just not enough horsepower, and it was rated 200w-350w extension.

I used to have an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro, which had a wonderful tone, but it seemed a Peavey Mark IV had more balls. It supposedly has less wattage than the Ampeg, but just seem to punch through better. It may not have the Ampeg sound, whatever that is, but at least you can hear the damned thing in a live band situation.
