Speaking of Long & McQuade & Canada, what do you think of Traynor Amps?

Answer:
I think Traynor ( & their other other brand Yorkville Sound) make very good amps & P.A.s,....& from what I understand most of their amps (if not all of them) are made in Pickering, a suburb of Toronto Ontario, Canada,...this is as good as saying Made in U.S.A. in my opinion with regard to quality & workmanship,....... I've also seen over at Talk Bass that Traynor has a bit of a following.(the Dyna Block & Dyna Bass heads are very popular)
Traynor has been around since 1963 & seems well constructed, & they sound Good and have come a long way from back in the day in the 1970's when they were considered a good amp for beginners, ....these days you can see Traynor being used my many steady gigging musicians (in my area anyway) & Traynor won't break the bank (on most models),...they're well priced & they won't be fading into the Sunset anytime soon like other brands mentioned in this thread... check out this link:
http://www.long-mcquade.com/?page=depar ... rBrand=135

Here's the Traynor link:
http://www.traynoramps.com/
If you don't see Traynor amps in your area & if you live close to the border you can take a quick trip over the line to Canada & check them out at one of the many Long & McQuad Music stores or you can shop online, Traynor also has American distribution out of Niagra Falls N.Y. all info is on their website. :)

With regard to the SWR Working man line of heads & Cabinets,... SWR revamped & retooled this line in the 2004, & changed the name to Workingpro,....a year later in 2005 the Combo's got the same name change,.......... word on the street was,.. there were issues with the Workingman line, ....that being said I've always read & heard good things about SWR's Workingpro line & I can attest to the quality of my SWR Workingpro 4x10 Cabinet,....it's a good solid cabinet, but I doubt it will be leaving my house much since I recently got the lighter SWR Golight 4x10 Neo Cabinet,...... this cabinet can also handle 800watts where my Workingpro Cabinet is heavier & can handle 400watts..

Yeah, I watch this TV show called "How It's Made," which I believe comes from Quebec, and they had a segment that featured Traynor amps being built. They look like quality stuff. I remember the older Yorkville line, especially there was a 400 watt combo they had. Originally, it was a blueish-grey color.

I'm not too far from the border, but I don't have a passport (something I really should look into, actually) and these days they're a pain in the $@! about these things, unfortunately. It's funny because I've heard of a town that's split between the US and Canada border, so if you want to visit your neighbor down the street, you have to go through some check point B.S. Imagine if your house was split down center of this. Your bedroom is in Canada and kitchen is in the US. You can say you live in two countries. :P

The SWR line always seemed pretty solid to me, it would be too bad if it went by the wayside. I guess that's the way it is, these days.

Yes I know the town you're talking about, ......I think the name of the town is Stanstead.... Half of it is in Quebec & the other half is in Vermont, .... there's a couple of towns like this along the Canada/ USA border there's also the small city of
Sault Saint Marie ......half of it is in Ontario & the other half is in Michigan, ...... I've been to a lot of these towns back in the day when I used to play in touring bar bands,....they're great little towns...

I imagine when these towns were established, there probably was no concept of the boarder, it was probably "well this seems like a good location to set up shop." I guess because of the whole Sept. 11 thing, there has been a lot more politics involved and things have tightened up. I'm not sure, but I think before all of this you could go across without too much trouble. I'm not sure if you needed a passport, or not back then. I'd actually like to visit Canada someday, especially Quebec or around there, since I'm actually part French Canadian. My Dad's people migrated from that area, in fact his father spoke French. I never met him, though. He died in 1965, six years before I was born.

September 11 has definitely tightened things up,..... I never needed a passport to go to the States in the past but that all changed in 2007 when it became mandatory.....

I'm part French myself,..... I was born & raised in Montreal,...Great City !! especially next week when the Jazz festival starts..... all the big manes make their way North to Montreal for 10 days,... it's awesome!!
I moved to the west coast 20 yrs ago & now live in Vancouver,.... actually Vancouver's Jazz fest started last night !
With regard to border towns I can remember back in the day playing a lot of these towns
in eastern Canada & the States & you're right you could wonder into the States & not realize it,.....(I'm sure those days are now gone) Drug smugglers tend to use these routes for their activities..

Yeah, long before drugs it was booze because of Prohibition. I'm sure people still can get through undetected, considering how big the boarder is. If you get caught, that's another thing.

I've only seen things on travel shows and documentaries. I was watching this one film on TV that was from 1965, I think. It was touring Canada by helicopter. It was sort of a strange film. It did show the Beatles riding along a road in a limo, so it must have been when they toured there.

That's been one of my ambitions in life is to travel. Would be even better to play shows along the way.
