You'll need a forklift for the 2000S.

Arjay,

Wouldn't a TR normal channel do just as well with an external cab? True, the showman did not have a "mid" control on the normal channel (until the Showman Reverb.) Has anyone tried that?

For the most part, didn't the Showman and Twin Reverb share most of their circuitry? (except for the reverb.)

I guess I could since my rumble cab will handle 500w continuous, 4ohm.

A TR chassis would be perfectly fine for use with a bass. Before I bought my Bassman 135, that's what I used to use around the house. The ultra-linear editions are particularly well-suited for bass (or Rhodes piano for that matter).

That reminds me of a time long, long ago that we plugged a Fender Rhodes into the Reverb Channel of a 65 Twin. Some very interesting sounds... On a side note, I noticed that Rhodes is back in business and selling several models now. With nearly unbreakable tines!

+1

I can attest to this. I have a 69 Bassman that I have run through the Rumble 4x10 and it is awesome! (But I normally run a Rumble 350 head into it.) I need to try the Twin Reverb (normal channel with Jazz Bass) into the Rumble 4x10 just for grins. The Bassman gives me those classic tones, but not enough volume for gigging these days. The 350 gives me those classic tones and then some. Just doesn't have the visual "Cool Factor" that the vintage piggy back heads still have after all these years.

The Dual Showman is going to give you "almost" as much as the new Bassman 100T but without the bells and whistles.

......And without the 'benefit' of offshore-manufactured components, glow-in-the-dark grill cloth, bio-degradable "vinyl covering", MDF cabinetry, and RoHS-compliant solder.

+100

And Fender used to underrate the output of the amps back in the 60's anyhow. I'd say the Showman was closer to 100w than 85w. But that's just my opinion.
These days, I don't think my ears could tell the difference anyhow once they start bleeding.

The 2000s Slipped through my fingers - the guy sold it just before I got to him - probably best for my back though. Oh well...

Exactly! Ha!
I was initially drawn to the new bassman tube heads, but I really dislike all those bells and whistles - plus printed circuit board.
It's like being into cars - sure a brand new mustang is more reliable, faster, and technically advanced than a 1966, but in ten years when the computer and the plastic parts wear out on the new mustang, the 66 would still be a classic, worth more, and be a hell of alot easier to fix.

+1!

I personally witnessed 55 watts from my silverface '67 Super Reverb under bench-test conditions.

Personally, I favor the Mach 1 ('69 thru '71). But a '66 2+2 fastback in Acapulco Blue with a 271-hp 289, a 4-sp box, and white interior would fit my garage nicely.

Anything pre '71 is cool by me.
A highland green 68 GT 390 ala Bullet would be pretty epic... Lots of power, classic styling, no computers - no wonder I find old amps fascinating!

I'll bet that they, and the vintage amps, will be up and running shortly after any EMP as well. This newfangled stuff will be fried. Of course, EMP only happens in Scifi movies.

I think it's more likely that jack-booted federal thugs in black helicopters will pay you a visit at zero-dark thirty than any EMP befalls us.

An EMP, eh? Sounds kinda nice...
A world without iPhones and Toyota Prius's? Those of us with vinyl and tube amps will be the only people capable of rock and those techno weenies will have to learn a real instrument?
No internet would suck, but I guess I'll just have to work on my smoke signals...
I say bring it on!
