Hey all,

I just picked up a really nice Studio Bass. You know the one, top heavy, 15" EV speaker with 200 watts of 6 - 6L6C tubey goodness!

It still has the original Fender tubes in it, so it likely has never been serviced. I want to give it a once over, but I'm not going to dive in blind. Is there a wiring diagram or some kind of service manual for this beauty?

Thanks for any help!

If you open up the amp section, USE CAUTION !!! Some of the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply section can retain a 400 volt charge for several hours after the amp is unplugged from the wall outlet. Also, look for any wet spots near the larger capacitors BUT DO NOT TOUCH THE LIQUID. Depending upon the age of the amp, some of the electrolytic capacitors may contain PCB's... a known carcinogen. (polychlorinated biphenyl).

Good luck and be safe...

+1!

All electrolytics should be drained prior to any hands-in-the-chassis servicing.

Thanks! I work for GE in their large motors division so I'm familiar with large capacitors and their safety. Some of the old boys tell of a time when they would charge up ones the size of your fist and play catch..

LMFAO

No, but I once got bit by the exposed anode of a thyratron used in the transmitter section of an FPS-6 height-finder radar. About 5500 volts (but thankfully, very little current). They tell me I lit up like the Macy's Christmas Tree in NYC.
