Hey everyone.... I have a question. I have a bassman 100 combo amp with a 10" eminence speaker. My question is, is if I unplugged the speaker and plugged in a 1x15" cab, would it be louder and sound better? I would love to run the eminence 10" with a 15" at the same time, but don't think that is possible. Any help would be appreciated along with any ideas to help upgrade my sound. Thanks.

It would depend upon the efficiency of the 15-inch speaker and the cab it's mounted in. In any case, be sure the 15's impedance matches that of the original ten. Underloading the amp may cause damage to the output stage.

Thanks ar jay. It runs at a 4 ohm load. I tried a fender mustang cabinet with the amp by using the combo as just a head, but I didn't like the sound. I just started playing bass with a band and didn't know if the 10 could be loud enough. I didn't try it, but I am thinking about trying it next practice. I was looking at some peavy cabinets with either 1 or 2 15's, but didn't know if it would make much difference. 100 watts just seems to me like it could push a little harder than 1 10" speaker. I know it's not that powerful, but the 100 watts is no small load either. Any thoughts?

I would think that a 100-watt amp would be capable of driving at least one additional speaker so long as the total impedance of 4 ohms is maintained.

You might consider a 4 x 10 bass cab of 4 ohms in lieu of trying to jury-rig a 15 in conjunction with the amp's existing single 10. Disconnect the internal speaker altogether in this instance whenever your playing situation demands additional "grunt".

Upgrade. You can buy a brand new Rumble 150 combo with a 15 for $350. You can also buy a new Peavey Max 115 with 300 watts for $300. How much is the single 15 cab going to cost? Sell the Bassman 100 or keep it as a backup, or use it as the drumer's personal bass monitor. :D He or She will love you for it :!:

+1

Another eminently useful option.

Thanks for the help. I'm a little tight on money right now since I'm between jobs, but I just sold some gear and have about $100, maybe a little more, to spend. The 15" cab would probably be around that price, used that is. I was just trying to work with what I have. I just started playing bass with a band and we have a PA system, I just didn't know if I could use a 15" cab to upgrade my sound a little. Thanks for the advice. I will have to see how my money situation is.

If your amp has a D/I or line out jack you might wire it up to your PA for a little more kick.

Just so the original poster in this thread has proper tech data - The Peavey MAX115 has a 60 Watt output, not 300. I'm sitting right next to one here in my office.

No, no P-L! That's the old one. This new version has 300 watts, or so Peavey claims.

OK, my friend - forgot about that one because no one in my local area stocks it and I haven't seen one as yet in person.

I did some research on the one that you mentioned above and it would be a good alternative for the original poster when his budget would allow.
