It may depend on what the cabs are made with. The Acoustic 1X15's, and 4X10's are made with Medium-density fibreboard. One reason I went with the Ampeg SVT-410HLF, Baltic Birch Plywood.

I don't think the USA ones are MDF but the specs don't say for sure what they are. I also think that like the Ampeg SVT Classic and 8x10 fridge cab these will probably mostly be used on major tours and not by guys like me who buy, haul, move and setup their own gear.

HAPPY ENDING TO THE SUNN STORY:

Today Conrad Sundholm makes all tube guitar combo amps ($2K to $3K per) plus he turns out a 12AX7 based rack mounted bass preamp ($700 per). His amp brand logo is "CONRAD" and the business is named Conrad Engineering. Like the early 60's SUNN amps from the family garage, each is hand wired by Conrad one at a time for a customer whose name has slowly worked its way up on a rapidly growing waiting list. History repeats up to this point, but I think moving to an industrial setting isn't in Conrad's plans this time. He claims he's having too much fun.

I'll tell you what, that Conrad Blues Jammer looks to be a sweet amp!

The SVT-410HLF isn't that bad. The 610, and 810 are more unruly.

Yeah no where does the 361 specs mention the type of wood used for the cabinet,...I find it kinda of odd .....what they do mention though is that the 361 weighs 145 LBS !! Holly Crap!! as much as I like the 361 cabinet ..... I prefer my 3 x SWR Cabinets ....as they all weigh under 89 LBS. ......... my SWR Golight 4x10 Cabinet is my current fave sound wise & weight wise (it's only 56lbs) :)

My Ampeg SVT-410HLF weighs in at 85 pounds. The 60's Acoustic 361's ran 125 pounds. The heads were about 85 pounds. They ran from 1968 - 1971.
The cabs using MDF, can be heavier. It takes more MDF to have the strength of real wood. Heavier then.

I expect that the Acoustic USA cabs are voidless birch plywood, since that is what they used to be. The 361 is heavy because of the power amp being in it. That amp easily adds 40 lbs. These new USA ones appear to be exact replicas down to every detail. For the amount of money involved and the mass of the cabs and weighty interior amp MDF would be more that a con, it would be a total turn off to buyers.

True I don't know many people who would want to pay big bucks for a cabinet made of MDF,.... I forgot there's a power amp in the cabinet,...that would definitely add extra weight,... however I still wonder why they didn't mention the type of wood used to make
the cabinet in the spec's section.

Well back when they were making these the first time, MDF was mostly used as flooring in mobile homes and not for bass cabs. Guess they just overlooked it. Their stuff is so new they still don't have even partial specs for all the products up yet and if you click on a link to the manual for some of the products it loads the 360/361 user manual instead of the manual for the cab you wanted to see.

Yeah I noticed that they don't have the spec's for some of the cabinets on the products made in America website (www.acousticbassusa.com)
Their other website (products made in China www.acousticamplification.com) has spec's for all advertised items ....... maybe they rushed the website & it's still a work in progress.
I'm still very impressed with what they've accomplished in resurrecting a classic. :)

I am too. The original and new models are pretty much identical when viewed side by side down to minute detail.

SUBJECT CHANGE! Anyone try out the new Peavey MAX combos yet? Curious about them. They look too good to be true on paper.

No I haven't,....I've checked out their website a few times & have read up on their current Bass amp offerings,( as you say they look good on paper).... it's been 15 years since I last played a Peavey amp,..... I owned a 100watt 115 Combo in the 1980's, I toured & recorded with it from 1985 -1992,....it served me well, I sold it in 1995....there's a Mom & Pop small music store in my neighborhood that sells Peavey amps,...I might go check them out. ...(out of curiosity).
