Thank you AaronK and brotherdave.

@AaronK
yes, i assume that the cabinet connector is OK with only one plug is being connected though i can not say for sure about the impedance until i've read your respond. much appreciated for that information.

@brotherdave
yes, i already know about the difference between speaker cable (unshielded) and instrument cable (shielded). i think you're assuming that the Roland speaker combo would only run at 60 Watts output is acceptable because it is supposed to have a total impedance of 8 ohm MAX when connected to the external cabinet. unfortunately, there is no PA available for me. i'll be sure to visit your home page.

Yeah the specs are very vague and calling them specs is stretching it. But I'm thinking it is a 4 ohm capable amp with a built in 8 ohm speaker. Connect an 8 Ohm cab to it and you now have a 4 ohm load and the amp does 120 watts at 4 ohms. This is sort of an aberration as most combos now come maxed out with the built in speaker or speakers at the minimum load. The 60 watts RMS estimate when using the combo in stand alone mode is just a guess. Roland makes some good bass combo amps but I am really disappointed in the published specs on this particular one. It is like they didn't think anyone would actually read them. The more professional D-Bass combo specs are far more complete. The published Cube specs shouldn't even be called specs.

Anyway I think you'll find the Cube 120 about twice as loud with an external cab. I would consider the Cube 120XL as a possiblity myself since it has an XLR out. But it is pretty big. I might go with something even smaller that has more power in stand alone mode, but I'd still patch it out to the front of house PA.
