Very soon I am purchasing a Rumble 350 and I want to get an idea of A: how well it will handle the low B on my five string bass, and B: whether it will handle acting as an active subwoofer in my sound system. A maximum low level of 30 hertz would be great, but I'm not sure what the frequency response on it actually is. Does anybody know/have an idea?

I have had a Rumble 350-210 combo for just under a year. I don't play five string, but I did do some precise testing a few months ago and the Rumble 350-210 will respond properly at 19 hz... which is quite a bit lower than what you need for "B" on a five string (roughly 31 hz ).

Thanks a lot. If it can handle frequencies down to 19 hertz wow it can probably properly recreate explosion sound effects if I were to watch an action movie with my soon-to-be sound system.

Just an FYI -

I also have a Bassman 250-210 combo and tested the frequency response on that one as well using a sweep-type audio sine wave generator set at a 175 millivolt output. Both the Rumble 350-210 and the Bassman 250-210 operated properly at 19 hz... the lowest frequency available in the sweep generator that I was using. They both might respond lower than 19 hz, but for the average bassist, 19 hz will never be reached.

I just purchased a Peavey MAX115 combo and will be testing frequency response out of that amp's single 15 inch thumper sometime next week...

That is some useful information Paducah Luke! Did you graph the entire frequency range level variation in dB up and down the spectrum or just go looking in the lowdown territory?

Dave - I just tested the bottom end response for my own reference... my 'ears' tell me about the rest of the spectrum.

It all depends upon the end-user as to guitar control settings and amplifier control settings as to what will come out of the speakers. Since there are so many individual user variables, I didn't bother testing the total response because those details are well published elsewhere.

Since I play Contemporary Christian, classic country and classic rock mainly at the low end of things, I just wanted a rough idea of what the equipment here will do in the lowest ranges. This photo below is my stage stack and I'm sure you can appreciate what this array can do when the stack is daisy chained.

Bottom to top... Fender Rumble 350-210, Fender Bassman 250-210, Peavey MAX115 and two highly modified subwoofers used as directional fill-in amps. Roughly 1000 watts RMS if I need it.

As promised, I finally got around to testing the low end frequency response of the Peavey MAX115 bass amp. In order to get below the 19 hz limit on my own audio sweep generator, I borrowed an ultra low frequency audio sweep generator from a colleague that goes down to below 15 hz. The Rumble 350-210 and the Bassman 250-210 both roll off fairly crisply at 19hz. However, the Peavey MAX115 is solid down to 15 hz... which is close to the low limit for the audio sweep generator that I borrowed.

Low "B" on a five string is solid on all amps tested and if you want to go to a low register "C" for some strange reason, the Peavey will get you there... but I warn you... Use ear plugs because the sound pressure at those ultra low frequencies can do a number on the inner ear and eardrum. We were developing 121 db 3 feet from the Peavy Amp at only 3/4 volume... so, be careful when you are testing. :!:
