Bought Bronco 40 this week. Works fine. Tried XLR out to another amp as a slave unit - worked fine. Downloaded new firmware - now there is a pretty bad hum through XLR. Nothing else changed. Nothing was plugged in new or unplugged. Only upgraded firmware. Any ideas? The only other thing I know to try right now is to make sure nothing else on the same house circuit is contributing. XLR cable is new and I'm not aware of a groundlift switch to try. Thanks for any ideas. Not an urgent problem, just tried it to see if it would work. I tried resetting - no change. Only thing I could try otherwise is removing the firmware, but that doesn't seem feasible.

Hey Jerry,

Try reverting back to an earlier version of firmware to see if the hum is still there.

Apparently the hum was just coincident to the firmware installation. I had the amps plugged into different plugs, same outlet at the time. After posting the request for info, I plugged them both into the same power strip - no hum. Nonetheless, I will be purchasing a hum eliminating device in case of future problems at locations besides my house. Amp works fine, it was a ground loop which decided to randomly make it's presence known, fortunately not at an inopportune time.

Hum? Never heard any on these. But the firmware revision does have some issues.

At he moment, using the same surge protector strip seems to have solved the problem. I am getting a HumX as a backup if the hum shows up at a venue other than my house - hasn't so far. Seems to this point it may have been coincident to the software upgrade and not because of the upgrade. I'll repost if the hum doesn't behave as a ground loop and persists despite technical efforts.

Hey Jerry, welcome to our neck of the woods, the Bronco40 Forum. We're a small but loyal group of enthusiasts who've found the modeling amp to be a lot of fun. I'd like to hear your impressions of the Bronco as soon as you put in enough time to feel comfortable discussing it. Again, welcome, and don't forget to check out our other postings unless you already have.

I have an intermittent ground loop manifest where I live -- even when everything is plugged into one socket. A 1/4" to XLR di-box w/ a ground loop switch fixes that. ...ground loop noise, other noise, flip switch, gone, done!

The hum debugger works for single coil and high gain noise (humbuckers too)!

Yep it is a ground loop. I agree. Different power sources. If possible power the house mixer and amp from the same circuit. Should cure it.

For my purposes the Bronco works very well. I have a Fender Am Std J-Bass and jam with a few friends - mainly jazz and easy listening type music. We play now and then for parties in smaller venues. The numerous options available on the amp allow plenty of options to suit those occasions - for me mainly a clean sound with some effects now and then. Amp has plenty of volume as is for what I do. Other options I have and use with the amp - (1) A small pedal board with a Sadowsky preamp and (2) XLR out to a power amp and a 2x10 custom cab or XLR out to a board. All work well and all allow unlimited flexibility. The Bronco makes a great stage monitor with a power amp adding extra volume. I'm a great fan of low powered amps having hauled around the big brothers in my younger years. Now, it is mainly a hobby. The biggest venue I play is Wed and Sunday at our fairly large church using their sound system at that point. If needed, the Bronco would handle that fine with the power amp boost. My favorite settings are the older Fender models and the Rockin' Peg.

Hi brotherdave,

Could you please elaborate on the concerns you have about the firmware update to the amp? Thanks.

Hi brotherdave,

Thanks for the update. And just for my own clarification, are you saying that your friend was or was not able to update firmware correctly?

Best Regards,
