This is how I build a clean preset:
Using Fuse I choose an amp model and remove comp and fx, I decrease the gain as low as possible and increase the channel volume to maximum. Then I increase the bass, the high and decrease the mid. I search for the original amp user guide to understand the pots and switches and I make some tests, finaly save as a clean amp preset.
Try this with each amp models, you can add comp and fx later and save them as a new preset.

Good tip, rickbass55. Starting off with a clean and uncompressed signal is the best way to get to the true personality of the amp, though with as much pre-processing as these models have you may have to work harder with some than others.

I'm finding myself tweaking their original without adding much in the way of effects other than a little reverb with some models. In other words, I'm pretty boring as compared to someone who edits fairly deep. Have you messed much with the advanced controls? I've tried a couple but don't feel there's that much difference without overdoing it.

Hey, if there's anyone else out there who wants to add there two cents, rickbass55 and I won't mind. I sometimes feel like we're the only two bassists who own this amp. I'm still liking the Ampeg models the best, but am trying harder to get some of the others involved, like the scooped Rumble. I agree with ya, rb55, each model does need a certain amount of tweaking to sound best, but the one amp model I haven't been able to modify with any luck is the SWR. I'm that old school, lots of thump in the lower mids kinda guy, I guess.

I'm going to take your advice on constructing a preset to see if I can make the Redhead sound more like a Brunette!

I am working on the Rumble (no effects for now) and I like it very much. My goal is to have a fat bass sound with some high and scooped mid on each amp. With the Redhead I will go for a mid jazz bass sound (ref Jaco) if possible with some effects. My bass for testing is a Squire vm Jaguar bass (P and J pickups) and sometimes a Schecter Stiletto active or a Rockbass Corvette $$ passive. My goal is t have the amber preset for the Squire, the red for the Schecter and the green for the Warwick.

I forgot to say that I am on flatwound except for the Rockbass = more vintage than modern.
Looking for Roger Waters sound Shine on you crasy diamond live at Wembly from the Wish you were here Deluxe Experience edition. All the live songs from this edition are the best from Pink Floyd in the seventies ...
