I just recently got the 350. I'll tell you, whoever designed these did their homework. It's one hell of a value! I'm loving mine. I'm going to be putting it to use pretty soon. I've got some gigs lined up. The first show I'm doing is on WMFU in New York around the second week of March. That will be it's baptism of fire, so to speak.

I wouldn't mind having the whole series, even though I don't know what I'd do with them all. I guess one size for different rooms or purposes. Actually, the 75 has been peaking my interest for some reason, the most. I think it's because it's the smallest one they make with a line out. I could use it for practice and recording. The 350 is pretty loud for the tiny room which I have that set up for. Plus, I want to most keep it for live purposes and group rehearsals. The 75 would be my room rig. I wish the 30 or even the 15 had some sort of line out. That would work, too.

I was initially hesitant about having a combo with 2x10'' speakers, since I've always used 15" ones, but it actually does put out some low end and power. I think I used to worry about that before I used a 10" setup because I once tried a head through a 400 watt 2x10 cab and it farted out a little bit. Of course, at the time I didn't factor in things like ports or tuning and now things have improved. I really didn't educate myself about new different aspects of equipment until the last couple of years. I used to think that you had to have an 18" speaker to carry a low B, but apparently bass technology has improved over the past 20-odd years. That's not the case, anymore.

I have both the Bassman 250-210 and the Rumble 350-210 and have used them together in large venues. They do the job so well that I have yet to have to plug into the PA system mixer board.

The OverDrive section in the Rumble 150 and 350 are outstanding and really makes the higher powered Rumble series great amps compared to some other brands.

Remember, 2-10s theoretically move more air than a single 15. My Rumble 350 produces distortion free tones down to 26 Hz. which is just below low B. I wish that the Rumble 350 had Eminence Speakers, but the 'special design' speakers from Fender seem to handle everything very well.

Another thing, the 2x10" cab I had was smaller than the Rumble amp. I think it was intended to be used with another cab, such as a 15". That's good to know it can handle a low B. If I ever decide to get a 5-string, then I don't have to worry about my amplification.

I haven't really played much 5-string. The few times I tried it, I found it awkward. But, it's been at least 12 years since I've messed with it. A couple of years ago, I did pick up a 6-string bass to see if I could even play it, and it actually felt manageable to me. My last attempt was 20 years ago and the thing was like trying to play a book shelf. Of course, I was only playing for 4 years. I guess I've developed a lot of dexterity for as long as I've been playing. I wouldn't buy one and play a gig the same night, but it could be something I'd like to experiment with.

When I think about that, it seems rather surreal that it's been that long since since I've started out on bass. I still remember being that teenage kid jamming in some garage somewhere, going into the unknown. My spirit has never faltered from that. I've had a few rough patches in life, but I've never given up on my music. I hate to see when anyone does. Especially, under the duress from others around them.

Interesting posts fellas. BassPaulL, please let us know how the gig in New York turned out. I'm anxious to hear how your 150 did. My guys at the local GC discouraged me from buying a Rumble last year because they said it wasn't "built to handle regular gigging." I'm happy with my Markbass rig, but still think either the 150 or 350 would've been good buys. I'm curious to how it went. Thanks!

For right now, the New York radio show gig is cancelled. It wasn't feasible to do at this time. We do have other things in the works, though. My girlfriend just did a couple of songs with Reeves Gabrels, whom you probably know played with David Bowie. He did a hell of a job.

I actually have the Rumble 350, by the way. I haven't actually gigged with it yet, but I'm pretty sure it will do fine. Besides, as much as it costs, it's not too much of a major investment. I've had Ampeg (when it was still USA made,) which is supposed to be the top of the line, or whatever crap out on me. So you can't always judge something because of the cost, too. It is one of those things you really have to try for yourself and see if you like it or not.

Great story, Paul. I wish the very best for both and your gal. Maybe we'll all be heating a lot more from ya real soon. Yeah, the 350 was the amp I was looking at because I figured it should be able to fill the stage with decent volume and then DI out front. Keep us posted on how it holds up for you because I'm sure there are others interested too. Roadwear is a whole other thing that means a lot too. Again, thanks for sharing.

I know we have some sort of festival gig in October or thereabouts, but I'm pretty sure we'll book some shows before that. I'll be able to put it through it's paces live, then. I can't wait, I'm sick of sitting around. There is a lot of stuff going on, though. If things really take off, then I'll be able to get even more gear. I could use a new bass, that's for sure.

I hear ya on that. I don't know how Asianpeg gets their power figures, but I think they are inflated. I have two different Ampeg USA made 450 watt rack heads and I have a 1975 or so 100 watt Peavey Century 200 Head. The old 100 watt Peavey is frankly about as loud. The inflated power figures is something noticed by others and not just by me. I do prefer either of the Ampegs' tone over the Peavey though. Maybe to get all that lush warmth they have to sacrifice some of the power.

Either way, if it comes down to Asian amps or North American amps of today, I'd want North American every time. Since I can't see a Heritage SVT being slung around by me, I figure these are the last Ampegs I'll ever buy.

I've not used a lot of different gigging amps. Once I switched to Ampeg in the early 70's that was the only brand I'd gig with until recently when I've been trying different things out. I also for a great while used Ampeg BA combos for rehearsals and such until I went ultra-light.

In the bang for buck department, the Rumbles are...(if you'll pardon the choice of words) champs! However they aren't exactly light. So I guess that makes them middle-weight champs!

I know what you mean about Ampeg. I had an SVT3 Pro (it was still made in the US, too) and it never seemed to have any balls to it. I always had to constantly tweak the thing. It fried on me one time at a rehearsal studio and I had to use a Peavey Mark IV head (which I actually owned before, a few years previously) the rest of the time there. I'll tell you, it's 210 watts at 4ohms had more power and presence than the Ampeg's 450. Those old Peaveys may not sound as great, but they usually work and cut through. I don't know how the new ones are. I've read horror stories about the new Tour series shutting down because of some triac chip thing a few years ago. I'm assuming they've long since fixed that, though.

I just got my Rumble 150 the other day and am absolutely blown away by this amp!! I went from being rhythm guitarist/lead vocalist in my band to bassist/lead vocalist and man am I glad I got the 150! Clean loud and wonderful tones! I used to play bass in Nashville back in the 90s and am glad I am back keeping the bottom line down!!
