I'm not sure on that one. I usually try to boost the low mids, if anything, and I don't use much treble or the tweeter. Tone is really subjective to personal tastes. That, and depends on the room you are in and your instrument. It usually takes some tweaking and trial and error.

 I use the Rumble's overdrive to get a thick tubey vibe. It's subtile, but definitely there. Set Gain at 2. Blend at 50%. As you turn up the volume, you will need to back off the blend. 8)

I just bought the Rumble 350 combo last week, and I've been playing my Jazz Bass and Rickenbacker through it. It is a very powerful amp, which I'm sure my cookie cutter neighbors would exclaim (in unison). I'm sold on the power. I'm not fond of the overdrive. I like the scoop button. I get good tones, but I don't think I've got it positioned in the sweet spot of my room. It sure can push some air. Whumpppppp.

That's cool that you like it. Next month, I'm really going to put it through it's paces and see how it does in a live situation. It seems like I've been waiting forever to do that. These October gigs I have were booked a long time ago. It's probably not a bad thing, since it gives you a long time to rehearse.

Good for you on the gigs. I hope you'll use this thread to report on those gigs; I'd like to know how the amp performs.

I haven't been a gigging bassist in many moons. I use the bass for jamming and recording. But I'm now ready for a gig since I got the amp. I've had a Ric 4001s since I bought it in 78, but I haven't had a bass amp since 1998, a Hughes and Kettner that was a bad $@!.

Tell me about it. I'm going to have to work longer hours to pay for it.

Not to get too personal, but these are my divorce presents to myself. I normally don't buy in bulk :D

Yeah, I'll be giving a report. Apparently, One of the gigs is for a television show, so I'm sure that will be in some relative studio condition. I have no clue what will be the set up with that, since I've never done that type of gig before. I guess I'll find out.

Welcome to the divorce club. I've been a member since 2005. :P I should have never gotten married in the first place, but that's a different story and I doubt appropriate for this forum. I've also just joined the just turned 40 club back in last December. I'll tell you it's a rather strange age to be. I freaked out maybe for a few days before hand (wishing I did more in my 20's, all of that B.S.) but then gained a really interesting insight. You get to a point where you don't give a flying f-. So many things are pointless to worry about. It's too bad you don't do that so much in your 30's. Those were an annoying age. You're too much of a dumb $@! in your 20's and have a tendency to do dumb things (Like selling that 50's reissue P-Bass and marrying the absolute wrong person) that you regret later.

I had a 71' 4001 that I bought in 1989 or so. I paid $350 for it and it wound up being in rough shape. I remember the nut fell off when I changed the strings. I didn't really play it too much and got rid of it. I was a total newb that could barely even play (I started playing in 1988) so I didn't know anything about gear or anything else back then. If I had it today, I would have gotten it fixed up and I doubt I could get it for $350 these days.

I got you about age: I turned 50 this year. I love rock and roll and guitars with a passion stronger than when I was younger.

I know. It's funny, when you were a kid 40 or even 50 seemed like a million years away. Like another lifetime. The funny thing is I'm just as familiar with your age group than mine. My parents had me when they were 40 and 38 and I'm the youngest out of 6 kids. My oldest sister is 58 and biologically old enough to be my mother. In fact, her son is only a year and a half younger than me and we grew up together. My oldest brother was a year older than you (sadly, he died when he was 40) and I went everywhere with him. Yes, I'm well adversed in the van (with all of the "perks" that came with it. He had one. Didn't everyone from your age group did? Heh. It's like I went to high school in the 70's by proxy.

I think once you get into music, it just stays in your blood, if that's what you are meant to do. Hell, if Les Paul played practically up until he died in his 90's, I don't see why I can't. The concept of retiring from music baffles me. Retire from what? What are you going to do? Watch TV? I think that is what kills people. They sit around and start to stagnate.

What kind of tone settings are you guys using? Is there one that you like best as a 'go to'?

Sometimes I turn the horn off when I want a good bassy thud, back on for a bit of snarl. I put the eq evenly, but I'll use the eq presets occasionally. I've been playing through headphones. It's a sterile sound. I'm going to try the line out today and do some recording.

I typically don't use the horn and try to back of on much of the treble as I can. The reason for that is so I'm not so clacky on the strings and other finger noise. I'm using a P-Bass Lyte with active pick ups and they seem to run hot and bring out the treble. I'd like to try flatwounds on it to cut down on the noise. I think I picked up some bad playing habits when I was younger and I'm pretty much self-taught. I used to really pound the hell of of my bass (I even broke an E string once,) but now in the past several years, I've been really trying to play with more dynamics and not hit so hard. I have a lot of energy in my hands, especially when I'm really enthusiastic, so it's hard to not want thump those strings hard. It could be a habit from when I first started playing, I had a crappy amp and tried to do this to hear myself better.

I think I have the EQ more or less flat with maybe the low mid's boosted. I think I have the punch filter enabled, but I'm not sure about the scoop. Probably not. It's been a long time since I've even looked at or messed the amp. I'm supposed to be rehearsing in a couple of days, so I'll be getting that going again. As it is, I'll probably have to do other adjustments, since rooms do vary, but I do have a general sound I like to go by.

I have yet to even try the headphones or even the line out. I'm sure I will soon.
