Yeah, I had a bit of GAS for those, but like what was said, they were expensive. Come to even think about it, I've yet to come across any on the used market, but that was general browsing and not seriously searching for those. Maybe people hold on to them and not sell them. Either that, or they were total crap and blew up. :P I doubt it, though. I never heard anything about them being crap, either.

By the way, the oldest thing I found on this site, other than catalogs from the 60's to the 70's, was this Frontline magazine from 2011: https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... -Frontline They still had those later amps we are talking about, and that was when they also introduced the 2nd generation of the Rumbles. I'm guessing the earlier Bassman models, like that 250 and 100 watt ones were probably dropped the year or two before that, but I don't remember now.

I don't think the Fender Amplification Series went over well. there were still some big power name amps still around. I honestly believe players have a love, hate affair with Fender amps.

That doesn't seem to be as much of a case to where the guitar amps are concerned, since they seem to be more of a classic design, like the Twin and things like that.

I know if I were able to play 6 stringers, a Fender Twin Reverb would be the amp, no two ways about it. When I was on bass, backing up players locally, the preferred amp they chose, the Fender Twin Reverb was it. Deluxe Reverbs were in the mix also.

Yeah, they have a lot of power to them. You'd have to crank the hell out of them to overdrive, and that would get really loud at that point. I got a 1982 Super Champ that gets pretty loud, and it's 18 watts tubed. It has an EV Force 10 PA speaker, which came stock in it as some sort of upgrade when that amp came out, that handles 150 watts. I've played bass through it for the hell of it, and the speaker handles it pretty good. Apparently, it's pretty safe to run through a guitar amp as long as the speakers can handle so many times the wattage of the amp. At least 6 or 8, from what I've read online about it. I'm not planning on usually using that amp for that purpose, anyway. I was just messing around.

Electro Voice strikes again. Great speakers. Some of those smaller guitar amps can be punishers.

Yeah, unfortunately, they don't make them anymore, and all they pretty much do is PA stuff, and not really any raw speaker replacements. Kind of like that thing with JBL. I guess if it ever blew, I'd have to look elsewhere for a comparable replacement.

A real shame, they were great speakers.

I think part of the problem was, they made the speakers to good. They didn't need to be replaced as often, or never. Demand on them went down, and so did the manufacturing of them. The End! Image

You know, that's a very good point to that. If something isn't moving, you're not going to make any money off of it, and that's going to wind up hurting your business in the long run.

I do believe that was the impending doom of the majority of the really fine speakers of that time period. Jensen, and Celestion seem to be about the last of the speakers from then.

Both Jensen, and Celestion were standard speakers for a lot of amps back then.

Yeah, and I think they still are, besides Eminence.
