Yeah, and I'll bet there isn't a hell of a lot of tonal difference between the Super Bassman or the Bassman 800, either. It probably has the same preamp in both of them, I'm sure.

You're right. It actually does have almost the same preamp front end on it as the 500, and the 800 does. There are 4 SS preamp tubes in the Super Bassman. A total of three 12AX7's, and one 12AT7 Power tube. Both of the Bassman 500's, and Bassman 800's, have two 12AX7 Preamp tubes.
If I did have the cash to do another Super Bassman, I really don't think I'd do another one, after having SS Bassman Amps that work properly now.

Yeah, I think you're better off with the model you have, like you've said.

Most definitely Paul. I can move the 800 without a small crane!

Yeah, imagine, though as cool as the concept might be, an 800 watt amp that's all tube. That's probably getting into engine block territory, as far as weigh would go. :P Actually, I think someone at one time did make a 1000 watt all tube amp, but I'm not 100% sure if or what that was. I'll have to look again, but I think I've seen that somewhere around the web.

The 800 is what I consider to be a plain clothes tube amp.
The all tube 1000 watt amp does sound familiar. I think it was a pretty big head too. The SS 1000 watt Coral kilowatt was ahead of it's time. I think it used 2, 8X10" cabs.

I do believe it was this: http://www.chambonino.com/construct/const17.html, but it seems I've seen that elsewhere, but it might have been related to homemade sound systems in Jamaica, for blasting bass in Reggae music. That's some serious low end, there.

Those pics gave me a back pain imagining the finished weight of that thing.

Yeah, I'll bet it's quite a beast. I'm sure it sounds pretty good, though.

I'd have to hope so with all those tubes.

I don't think it was some sort of production model. I think it was just something that guy built, probably just to see if he could. I've seen this guy's page before. He's linked in with a vintage Hofner and various British amps from the 60's site that I've looked at on occasion. I've probably showed it to you a long time ago, I'm sure. He does all kinds of repairs and things with those old amps, and others.

I couldn't see something that enormous really fitting into the current amps on the market today.

Yeah, it would probably be a niche thing. The funny thing is if I could, I'd have one of those, because I'm weird like that. :P F' it, why not? Like I've said before, you only live once that you know about, so you might as well do something ridiculous like that.
