Oh, so you decided to go with that one, then? What's the deal with that?

Nothing really special, I still had the 500 I could use for a return toward the 800. It just seemed to me the extra bit I needed to kick in for the 800 just made sense. Kinda' like getting the most out of the amp. 500 Watts @ 8 ohms, without having to change out the 115 Neo cab. There's 200 watts of headroom to work with, @ the 8 ohms.

That's cool. I've actually been curious about that amp since it's been out, more or less. I even started a post around here a long time ago, trying to see if anyone had any dealings with it, if you remember. At leas now, you'll have a chance with it, and can see what's what. 8)

I think I remember that one. I need to go back to locate it, and bring it up tp speed. The 800 should be the same as the 500, with just a bit more power, at both the 8, and 4 ohms. I'm mainly interested in the 8 ohm application of 500 watts through the 115 Neo. The gives me the 500 watts in the Bassman 500 I could only get with two 8 ohm cabs, or the one 4 ohm cab. The 115 Neo tops out at 700 watts. 500 Watts is right in there. I verified it with Fender just to be sure they rated it correctly. 8)

I suppose the great thing about the bass amp forum, it never got a ton of traffic, so finding posts shouldn't be too difficult. Although, it's kind of weird reading what you may have posted years ago, and maybe on a different account. Sometimes when I find these things, it's totally alien, because you might not be in the same head space, drunk, or whatever as the time you wrote it.

I'd certainly say that amp has really good matching specs with the cab, so you can really push it if you want to. 8)

No doubt about the Bassman able to be pushed. Image

Sounds good. 8) I'm curious to see what you think with it.

I do like the extra watts, it does have a more power sound to it. On the Vintage Channel, the tube sound is as good as the Super Bassman, or the Ampeg V-4B.

How many preamp tubes does that have, like two or three, at least? You certainly have extra power to push it, that's for sure.

2X12AX7 Preamp Power Tubes. I really think it's the best alternative to a Super Bassman.

I actually like the concept of that. You can still get that tube tone, but with the benefit of a lighter weight, and powerful power section. Maybe some total tube snobs might insist on all tube, or nothing at all, but I've used solid state for 98% of my time on bass and never really gave a crap. I've usually managed to get a tone I was more or less happy with. To be honest, the times I did have issues were related to using amps with any sort of tubes, but then again, that could have just as well been the fault of the cabs, too.

In a way, the amp companies are somewhat finding ways to eliminate the vacuum power tubes. I woke up to realization, that a SS tube is capable of turning out that same tube sound.

Technology changes all of the time, as well. Things improve, or sometime they don't.

The SS Tubes are easier to change out, cost less, and don't have to deal with bias issues.

I suppose it all matters to what you want, or are willing to pay for, and deal with.

That's about it too. The Super Bassman is a fantastic tube amp. I just don't want to take the chances of issues the tubes can do. The fixit costs are not that cheap either with tubes.
