Jensen is still around, too. I do believe Fender still uses them in some of their guitar amps. They also make bass speakers, as well.

I liked using Jensens in the late 60's, early 70's. They sounded good, they were easy to find, and I could almost afford them. A hell of a lot better than Altec Lansings, or Electro Voice.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how much growl the 4003 puts out playing through the Bassman head, and cab. The 115 Neo is really exceeding my expectations with the 500 head.

I guess they were also designed to work together. That Ric is known for it's growl, that's for sure.

You know Paul, I would say the Bassman setup with a 115 Neo is a fine match. I'm getting to believe that the 115 is bringing out more of the growl from the 4003. It can also be that this 4003 has some better pups on it. Of all of the 4003's I've had, this one seems to be the best of the bunch.

Do you remember what amp you had the last time you had a Ric?

I think I had a Super Bassman, with a Ruby 4003.

That sounds about right. I also remember you had a natural wood finish Ric, too. Some special edition model?

It was a standard Walnut 4003. I almost got another Walnut the other day, until I tried the Jetglo. SA had the Walnut, a Midnight Blue, and the Jetglo. I wasn't to thrilled by the feel of the neck on the Walnut. The Midnight Blue, and the Jetglo sounded, and played about the same. The choice between the two, came down to the color of the Jetglo. For me there's something I've always liked about Ric Basses, or Ric Guitars in Jetglo. I backed on my EB0, a good friend of mine in high school, that played a Jetglo Ric guitar. His Ric looked so great in Jetglo. His Ric sounded so damn good too. Paul played through a Fender Twin Reverb amp. I loved the sounds of those Fender Reverb amps.

The Jetglo finishes are pretty nice. That was what I had on a '71 4001 bass that I got when I started playing. I wish I had the foresight to hold on to that one.

That would've been a nice one to have held on to. It's easy to look back to the past, from the present though.

It was in rough shape from being beaten up on the road, and the nut fell off of it when I removed all of the strings. I was too much of a newb to realize none of this stuff should have mattered down the road, and that nut could have been fixed. The funny thing about it was I only paid something like $300 or $350 for it. Imagine doing that these days, and they often spend extra cash in custom shops to make an instrument look worn like that. Even with inflation, I'd say that was a pretty cheap price for a 4001 from 1971, unless they weren't that valuable back in the late 80's.

Yeah, it wasn't the last time I did something I've sort of regretted, or regretted where gear is concerned. Although, I've also managed to get some good deals on stuff, as well.

I can't say for me, in which the scales tip for good, or poor transactions over the years. And I've been at it for some time now.

The Bassman 800 should be in tomorrow. It left Tampa about a half an hour ago.

Oh, so you decided to go with that one, then? What's the deal with that?
