I'm in Valhalla. I played the Am. Pro. Jazz today, and I was in total disbelief of how great it sounds. As I was playing some songs, I was drifting into imaging playing this combination live on a large stage. The Vintage Channel sounds good, but the Overdrive Channel thumps, and really drives the 115 NEO. I honestly forgot I have a Bassman 500, and not a Super Bassman. I can now see why the 500 is being used by a fair number of players. This has worked out better than I anticipated in my wildest dreams. Tomorrow the USA GL flies. Image

That's good to hear. It's always a nice thing when you get the perfect combination of gear working out for you. 8)

After playing a Jazz through the Bassman set, I was able to hear the difference in sounds between the Precision, and the Jazz. I like having the Precision for it's sound, but the Jazz really soars. The Bassman 500 / Bassman 115 NEO is ROAD REX APPROVED! Image

The issues I had with the former Bassman 500's showed up by now or sooner. Looking back on them now, I almost think it was in the circuitry of the preamp tubes.

Yeah, I remember something to that effect. Weren't you having some sort of noise issue, or was it some sort of malfunction?

It was in the Overdrive Channel on powering up. That's why I think it was the preamp tubes circuitry.

I can't say enough for this Bassman 500. This one is performing the way I was hoping the first two were suppose to. The Bassman 800 probably was released at a good time, now that the issues were worked out on the original 500's.

That's good that this one is working for you now. Hopefully, it will continue to do so. I do say, those Bassman 800 heads do have some nice features, as well. I don't have the money for them, but if I did and actually had the money, and paid full price for the Orange at the time, I would have either gone for that, or the SVT 7 Pro, instead. To be honest, I probably would have done the Ampeg, since it's $200 cheaper, and that could have covered the cost of a cab.

The 7 PRO would be my choice if I were wanting a 1,000 watts head with the features it has.
The GL played through the Bassman setup today. It's magnificent. The pups on it do seem to have more power than even the V-mod pups on the Am. Pro. Jazz have. I do believe the Bassman head, and cab are for me the way to go. The head, and cab has a true 60's Bassman sound. With the USA Eminence 15 Neo, it really does sound like a JBL. I would say it may even rival a Kustom 250.

It sounds like you have a good set up then. 8) Speaking of Kustom 250 amps, I'm sure I mentioned this, but that guitarist in Boston has one of those, but I've never played through it. I've just used one of the Kustom cabs.

Yes, you did mention his Kustoms, including the three speaker cabs. I don't remember seeing those around much back then.

Yeah, I guess the 2 x 15" cabs were more common, weren't they? He also has a Kustom 4 x 10" cab, and a PA head from them.

Yep. The 2X15 cabs were very popular. The Kustom PS's were just getting used more as well. Like I as may have said before, the Kustom PS's were better than Shure PA's at the time. The time for using Sears Silvertone amps, or Fender Bassman's for PA's was coming to an end.
