Either way, 500 watts isn't a slouch in the volume department, especially if you have a good cab to produce the sound with.

Yep. The SVT-212AV definitely handles the sound. The 12's really work well. To bad Fender doesn't do the Bassman 212 Neo. It's not just saying this, 12's are getting more popular again.

I know what you mean. Who knows, maybe they might, but I guess the closest you can get with them now, is stack a pair of the Rumble 12" cabs together.

I know, but I don't want the head hanging over the sides unsupported. I don't expect to see Fender doing the 2X12 cab. And if they did, it probably would be an 8 ohm cab. My 4 ohm Ampeg fits the bill for me.

That does seem like the ideal cab for your setup. It really doesn't matter what name is on the cab, as long as you like what it does. I have an Orange head, but I don't have Orange cabs, mainly because they are really friggin' expensive and I couldn't afford them. Then again, I wouldn't have been able to get the head itself, if it wasn't for the fact I got it as cheap as it was. That's not what you call a "budget brand." It was almost like I was cheating having it.

I agree with you, that's it's not important to have matching brand head/cabs. Sometimes I don't like having them matched up. I haven't had too many brands match over the years. From what you said when you acquired the Orange head, the deal was too good to not pass up. Nothing wrong with that.
The only other cab that I'm aware of that's like the Ampeg SVT-212AV, is the Mesa PowerHouse 212. That's a nice cab, and it's numbers are about, if not the identical to the Ampeg. But,......... here it comes. The price tag on the Mesa is over $1,000. Buckeroos, and the Ampeg is $700.

Orange makes a 2 x 12" cab, which is one of those isobaric setups, instead of your traditional arrangements, so it's the size of a 1 x 12" cab. I think it's around $749 or $799, from what I recall. There was also that one company, Avatar, that makes them, too. They always mention them on TalkBass, but other than that, and looking at their website, I don't know much about them at all.

Sometimes I get myself in trouble just by looking around at other amps. I saw that Orange 2X12. I like the traditional design, but the Orange is interesting.

It certainly is a lot more compact, if space is an issue.

Luckily the head/cab fits into the small room I play in. So space isn't an issue with me. I can see though where space can be a problem in clubs with small stages, practice rooms etc.

That's true, plus you do get the benefit of two speakers, but the size of a single speaker cab. Although, I suspect the cab might be slightly deeper to accommodate both speakers, even though they are typically installed at an angle, instead of lined up with the front of the cab.

The angle would probably be somewhat like the 18" in the old Acoustic 361, pushing the air down, and around.

Yeah, that seems like how they design that thing.

No, it's pretty cool, actually. 8)

By the way, I was looking at various cabs, and 4 x 12" cabs are generally pretty damned expensive. :P Someone had an Ampeg 4 x 12" bass cab pretty dirt cheap, but it was local pickup only, and in Brooklyn, New York. I suppose that's not tremendously far away, considering I've gigged in Manhattan, but it's kind of a moot point, since I haven't heard from the person about my cabs, and I don't have the money for that, dirt cheap, or not.

I've noticed things seem to happen in a weird fate sort of way when I get gear, so if I'm to get another cab, or whatever, it will happen when the moment and the right price happens.

I usually don't have the cash in hand at times.
