Interesting that it had a 2 x 15" speaker set up. Then again, 15"s were pretty common for guitar amps in the 60's, weren't they? The Kustoms used 15" with their guitar amp speakers, too. That's what John Fogerty used. He had a Kustom with a 2 x 15" cab. Now when he plays live, he has an Ampeg 2 x 15" cab loaded with guitar specific drivers to try to emulate his CCR sound when he does those songs.

The 14" horn on the Acoustic 260 up top was a sound blaster. Kustom amps were like I've always said about them, they were working amps.

I wonder if that thing could handle a bass guitar or not, besides at lower volume?

I wouldn't want to try it and mess up the high frequency horn. The speakers weren't bass speakers either.

I had a feeling that was also the case.

I was going to maybe swap out the B500, for a SB. I decided against it. The sounds are about the same anymore. So everything is as it was.

You're probably better off, since the SB would wind up costing more money, plus eventual tube maintenance. They do have the same preamp, at least.

That's exactly the way I looked at it too. The tube sound is about as close as I'd come in the B500, as compared to most amps within this range. The only other amp that's close to the B500 in sound, and power, for my ear is the GK MB500 Fusion. And Hell, I just like the old school amp looks of the head / cab. Image

It does have that vibe to it, that's for sure. It looks like it could have come from the 60's, although they couldn't have imagined this kind of technology back then.

Paul, you're so absolutely right. It does have that late 60's look. The technology that was available in that era was so right for it's time though. A lot of things were getting close to the brink of discovery, and moving forward. A very exciting time, when there were new things coming out all the time, day by Day. It was a great time for a lot of things.

True, Americans in space, Zip Codes, Vietnam War, The Beatles, Woodstock, the Ford Mustang, etc. And my awakening, the Summer Of '69.

A lot in a 10 year period, too.

It really was. Electronics were being boosted by the space programs. Pocket calculators came out a couple of years later. The cassette tape was a late 60's to early 70's item that didn't do 8 Track any favors.
