Hello everyone. I was recently given a Rumble 15 amp to repair for a friend. The issue is that no sound comes through the speaker.

I know that it isn't my bass or the cable. When I plug headphones in there is sound. This leads me to believe that it is either the wires coming off of the circuit board to the speaker or the circuits that bypass the speaker when you connect headphones.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and can offer my some pointers? Thanks in advance!

There's not a lot of circuitry involved with the speaker/headphone connection.....probably the headphone jack itself and a couple of resistors. A simple test for the speaker itself is to just connect a 1.5V battery across the speaker terminals and see if you hear a pop. That should at least tell you it's good enough to make some kind of sound.

If all is well thru the phones and you get a pop in the speaker with the battery, I'd start by checking for a plug on the board where the speaker leads plug into the board and be sure it is making good contact. Check for continuity from that plug to the speaker itself.

The headphone jack is probably sealed but you should be able to use a continuity meter tocheck that it connects/disconnects the speaker.

Let us know what you find.

I tested the speaker and it worked fine. Then I checked the wires for the speaker and they checked out alright.

So I desoldered the headphone jack from the board to take it to the store to get a replacement. Couldn't find a replacement locally so I put the old one back in and BAM...the amp works just fine. The solder points for the jack must not have been done very well and all it took was removing the old and a little cleaning.

Thanks for the help!
