Hi guys, I'm still looking for an affordable amp to play with a keyboardist/singer. Today I ran across this ad, BEHRINGER BXL900 which is a 90 watts two channels 12 inches speaker, and the seller asks $175.00 for it. To be honest, I read a few reports on google and I'm not impressed by the reliability of the amp, but I never tried one myself and maybe they are not that bad. I don't want to go over $200.00 for a used amp that will be sitting in a practice local for months. This one seems to be fit for the job, but I'd like to hear from you about this amp. Thanks in advance.
Claude.

PS, maybe that my problem of not finding an affordable used amp comes from my resistance to buy a brand new $400.00 amp and throw it away in my partners basement only to play with it for about four hours per week. I'm curious to hear your insights on that, what would you do? Continue to search for that elusive used amp or go for the new one no matter the $400.00 plus. This price bracket is not an issue, the problem is that in my neck of the wood, there is not a lot of used gear available and I want to buy locally to cut the shipping fees. I play with a 2010 MIM Fender Jazz V through a SWR LA10. I bought that set up to play alone and learn, but since I started to play with a keyboardist/singer, I have to drive my little amp almost to the maximum volume and sometimes, I find the lowest notes hard to hear. So ideas, hints, suggestions? I take everything. Thanks.

The amount of respect I have for Behringer gear would fill a thimble......

Maybe.

Keep searching for a quality bass amp.

If you do a little research on eBay or at various dealers close to your location in Canada, you may find something like this in the link below - a great combo system that will do everything that you need...

I own one of these fine amps and I am confident that it will work well for you.

You want a CHEAP RELIABLE rehearsal amp? Buy used. For under $200 you should be able to find something really decent used. Go for a 12 or 15 inch speaker and at least 60 watts. Some names to look for are Fender, Peavey, Hartke, Ampeg and Carvin. Try to find USA made used ones.

I admit that I do have some Behringer stuff. Behringer B-1 Condenser mics and a small 1002 recording mixer at home, some dynamic vocal mics my band uses at the rehearsal studio and a BDI21 bass amp emulator I use at home. I have found these to be reliable items that are good values. I have never even tried one of their bass amps though and I don't know a soul that actually uses one. I see them at Guitar Center. I see people try them out there, but I've never touched one. I do have a friend who plays keys and uses a big Behringer KB amp. They tell me if they push it too hard that it overheats and shuts off.

Behringer does not have a good name for bass amps at all. The reason? They do stupid stuff like making the BXL3000 300 watt combo with a 200 watt capacity speaker. That amp is going to blow the speaker about the first time you turn it much over half volume. The aluminum cone speakers they put in some bass amps and cabs tend to separate at the glued joints. So avoid the aluminum coned Behringer stuff for sure.

Their smaller bass combos like the 45 and 90 watter versions you mentioned are popular for home practice primarily because they are small and cheap, not because they are good. I think you'd be better off spending $200 on a used made in USA amp over a new Asian made anything.
