Just bought a new (floor model) Bassman 250/210 for keyboard use (I play LH bass a lot plus I like the bass amps for "thickness" vs. keyboard amps and PAs) a month ago. A bass player plugged into it today and I heard horrible "crackling" noise that seems to be coming out of the left side 10" driver only. I took the screen off and insured that the mounting bolts were tight (which they were) so it's not something simple, apparently.

Does this mean the speaker is "blown"? There's no tear in the fiber, etc. And the crackling only occurred on the low E and thereabouts.

After the bass player withdrew, I plugged in my keyboard, played some low sounds and got the same issue.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Sounds like that left-side driver is toast.

I'd take the amp back to the store and exchange it.

Any REPUTABLE store will warranty a FLOOR MODEL. Take it back - because somewhere along the line, someone did a number on it.

It was purchased out of state at a Guitar Center in Wisconsin. They were one of only a couple of GCs that had this particular model left in-stock. The chain has a 30 day return guarantee and unfortunately I am 10 days over that plus I didn't buy it locally (it was shipped from that WI. store to my MI. home).

I guess my option is to take it in to a local Fender Auth. Service Center and hope for the best, eh?

The full five-year factory warranty should still apply.

Be sure to have your original receipt and/or bill of sale with you when you bring the amp to the service center.

Best of luck

Arjay

I'd try contacting the seller anyway. You're only ten days over. They may give you satisfaction. Costs you nothing to try. Warranty work often takes a long time whereas the seller may just ship you a new driver. You've got nothing to lose. The worst that can happen is they tell you to contact the manufacturer, which you were prepared to do anyway.

Ouch. Definitely the speaker since only one side is doing it.

Bassman 250 / 210 combo. I've owned one since 2005. Bad Pots from the factory. This was a TSB warranty Item for Fender. Newer models had better pots. first couple of years it was made the pots went bad after a couple of years.

Take it to a Fender certified tech, and have them check your amp out for this issue.

In northern CA talk to either John at Rainbow Electronics or the "Amp Doctor" - both in Sacramento.
