I bought a used BXR 300c a couple months ago. It came with the Deltacomp button missing. In the first couple months, there was no problem with the vol. going up half or more. Then one day I put the vol. past half and the sound shut off. The Deltacomp light then started to go off (which it had never done) when I would try to play. Still no sound. The speaker still works so it's not that. And the fuse looks to be in good condition. Any suggestions anybody?

Maybe a thermal protection circuit is shutting it down. Without looking at it, it is impossible to know for sure.

Make sure your amp's FAN is working!

check mains-fuse ( XF1 ) inside ( there's only one fuse inside )
Check the varistor TH1

A common problem with these older transisistor amps is , that the solder joints are getting worse now ( this thing is about 20 years old now , and solder joints are getting worse due to "galvanic corrossion " )

What you can do is this :
Take out the printed circuit board , and re-solder all joints , and especially the pins of all the potentio-meters , jack-inputs , power transistors and the large buffer caps ( behind te rectifier bridge )

Use "contact-cleaner" , and spray inside the potmeteres and turn them for about 20 times back-and forwards ...
( there might be an insulation layer of nicotine , or other pollution inside )

For sound upgrading : ( to get a deeper sound out of the amp )

Change C2 and C3 ( 3n3 ) to 6n8

Change C4 ( .22uF ) to .33uF

My opinion : This is the very best reliable transistor amp they''ve ever build .

( sorry for the bad english ,....this is the best I can ,...hahaha )

regards ,

Sjors ,
Holland .
